The Tar Heels are in all white and the Demon Deacons are in all black. This game has been listed as non-conference thanks to scheduling issues with the ACC.
This rivalry started in 1888 and is the oldest in the state. Wake Forest won the first game 6-4, but it's been largely downhill since with the Heels leading 69 to 35 with 2 ties. After another lengthy streak by UNC in the 1990s, the series has been largely back and forth.
The last road win by either in this series is by UNC in 2004.
The longest win streak in this series by the Deacs is 4 from 1965 to 1968, back when this game was annual. The previous meeting was in 2015 when the TH's won 50-14. WFU's last win was the previous meeting to that one, in 2012 when they won 28-27.
In 1893, UNC beat WFU 40-0. They wouldn't play each other again until 1908 when the game became an annual affair and with that game and the next 2, the Heels would pitch 3 more shutouts, winning these 4 straight games by a combined score of 113-0.
UNC and WFU played each other annually from 1908 to 2004. After that, ACC expansion and scheduling measures caused that streak to snap. Since 2004, the Heels and Deacs have only played each other consecutively once, in 2006 and 2007.
This series has 2 ties, one in 1956 where both teams scored 6 points and the other in 1932 which went scoreless. There is also the 1891 game which resulted in a forfeit victory for the DD's.
