Mt. Juliet Police Department issued an update early Tuesday:

"Our community has been greatly impacted by a tornado," said Cpt. Tyler Chandler of the Mt. Juliet Police Department. "There are multiple homes damaged and multiple people injured. Our officers are in the early stages of this response and we continue to assess what is happening ... there are multiple homes damaged, multiple people injured, multiple people still trapped. We need your help."

"There are gas lines that are leaking, power lines that are on the ground, and multiple emergency responders are responding to those who are injured and trying to get them the help that they need," Chandler continued. "We appreciate your concern, your prayers. Continue to pray for our first responders and those that are injured and we will continue to keep you updated."

John Tune Airport officials released a statement saying the facility had suffered heavy damage.

"John C. Tune Airport (JWN), BNA’s sister airport in West Nashville, sustained significant damage due to severe weather earlier this morning," the statement read. There were no reported injuries. Several hangars have been destroyed, and power lines are down. In the interest of safety, the public is advised to avoid John C. Tune until further notice. The Airport Authority has activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the response."

Super Tuesday polling stations may also have been impacted by the tornado, Jeff Roberts of the Elections Commission said in a statement. Any voter in Davidson County whose assigned precinct has been impacted may vote at the Election Commission Offices, the statement said. Polls open at various times, starting at 7 a.m. CST, depending on the county.

Nashville schools have been closed Tuesday.

Severe weather is expected in the South each day through Thursday.

On Tuesday, scattered severe storms with damaging winds or large hail are possible from central Texas to the lower Mississippi Valley. Parts of central Texas have the greatest chance of severe storms.

Scary shit, middle of the night...
I can see how this can happen,, from someone who lives in an area prone to tornados, I can imagine that when the sirens started going off,, damn near everyone probably started cussing them for waking them up..
Most of the time,, matter of fact,, every time so far,, when we get the sirens, the tornado is usually about 10 to 20 miles away.. there are patterns that repeat,, they usually either go along I20 or go along the coosa river..
the first thing I do when the siren goes off is to turn on the tv and find out where it is.. not take cover..
Praying for the survivors ..

Seeing this made me happy. I definitely wrote the sirens off as nothing, but woke up to find the tornado had been a mile from me. Just four blocks. Definitely put me in a weird headspace for the day. Knowing there are coworkers who can't get to work because their car was destroyed and have to figure out where they are staying tonight, makes doing anything feel stupid. I don't know. But thank you for thinking of us

Just wow. You just got here and you got hit with some crazy shit. Glad you are OK. Praying for those around you. One thing you'll learn about those of us here is that we pay attention and are truly concerned about the shit we all have to deal with in our country. It's why we are family.

Thank you. It really does mean a lot. It definitely feels like a community and family here. I'm very glad to be around, both on here and just alive.

It's just like that group of friends you have around you in the real world. We won't always agree, but we will always be concerned that our "friends" are safe, happy, and healthy.

Frankly, many of us are very introverted. We don't have a normal friendship group out there in the real world. We found each other on the internet because......introvert.....

It doesn't take away from the fact that we truly care about our fellow humans, we just found a way that we could do it without the anxiety that introverts feel in that "real world". Then we started meeting up with each other in that "real world".

It's hard to explain, but it helped all of us to be better at dealing with that "real world".

I can totally understand that. I'm more extroverted, but only with people who I know very very well. This is like a little escape from the everyday, a safe space to joke and talk about whatever. We all need that.

Well then....I really like you, but thanks for warning me that I can't trust you. Extroverts are abnormal freaks that shouldn't spend time on the internet.

You ever seen a grown man naked?

I hope they are all okay. Lebanon was pretty much shut down today because it was so bad

I bet when you showed up here, you didn't expect to be the boots on the ground reporter. You'd be surprised how many times this has happened with all of us over the years. Real time shit. Shit that the media doesn't report because it doesn't get them ratings.

Hey now, I said I'm an extrovert with only people I know very very well. It takes like 3 years for me to feel really comfortable with people. And, perhaps. I'll never tell.

I'm okay with being that person, I just wish it was with something happy. I'm sure everyone is spread out pretty good so I'm not surprised this happens. My department was trying to get to some people today just so we could get them into hotel rooms for the night. Tragedy brings out the best in people.

Yeah, Caroline, if you had said you have a tree on your house, you'd have about three guys on here from Tennessee, in your yard with chainsaws, before dark.
