I suspect there’s more truth to this than anyone in power will admit publicly.
I was fine with ND having a unique arrangement, but I didn’t like them having a guarantee to get in that other non-conference champs can’t have. I agree that particular issue really ended up hurting ND, and will...
I love how the UM media people (Adam Shefter, Rich Eisen, Nicole Auerbach) are talking about this like it’s a mental health problem. If UM had beat OSU and makes the playoffs, this whole thing gets buried in Ann Arbor.
It’s back on due to the bad PR, which is only slightly better PR. But it’s the right thing to do. Whoever made the decision to cancel probably won’t be making decisions any more.
The ND AD is holding a press conference at noon. Since he’s already released statements and done interviews stating his disagreement with missing the CFP, maybe he says something of substance.
But this carve out that they were given isn’t going to earn them any sympathy:
I’ll say this, it’s a good thing that someone with clout is telling the powers that be they won’t necessarily play the game if the rules are fluid. As in ND is literally telling them “No, we won’t play!”.
We can debate who deserves what, or point out other teams with current or past...
I’m hadn’t seen the talk of the ACC criticizing ND, but that’s lame. I do agree that there is no transparency on how teams are ranked, or clarity on what to expect. I get that we have a committee because there’s going to be different ideas on who should be there. This looks shady, rather than...
I thought Miami should have been ahead of ND the whole time, and the committee excuse that they can’t compare teams head to head (when they’ve actually already played) was nonsense. But, since that’s not how they were ranked, how can you flip them when both teams were idle?
Miami got elevated...
IU has benefited more than any program from the portal so far. They had a 36% win rate in the previous 20 years to Cignetti getting hired (and bringing 15 or so players with him). Now they’re undefeated heading into the playoffs and ranked #1.
IU and Curt Cignetti have shocked the world. What an amazing turn around. They aren’t a fluke.
I wonder how many coaches were fired this year because an AD was hoping to find the next Cignetti.
