1. Optimize Minor League Placement

The way you handle prospects in the minors can make or break their growth.

  • Performance-Based Growth: Players grow faster when they succeed. If your Triple-A hitter is crushing the ball, their attributes rise quickly. Struggling in the majors, however, can slow development.
  • Avoid Rushing: Don’t promote too fast. A young player with low starting attributes may need a full season or two in Single-A before they’re ready for Double-A or Triple-A.
  • Monitor Splits: Check stats every couple of weeks. Poor numbers against left-handed pitchers, for example, can lower a player’s contact vs. LHP rating if not addressed.

The goal is to keep players challenged, but not overmatched.

2. Leverage New Franchise Mechanics

MLB The Show 26 introduces features that help manage player value and longevity.

  • Graceful Regression: Older stars like Mike Trout can maintain their peak stats longer if you invest in the Longevity stat. Train it for players 36+ to slow their overall decline.
  • Untouchable Status: Protect your core young stars from AI trade offers using the “Untouchable” tag in the Trade Hub. This ensures your top prospects stay on your roster.
  • Dynamic Potential: A player’s potential isn’t fixed. Strong performance can increase their grade (A-F), while poor play can lower it. High-potential prospects (A or B) naturally develop faster than those with lower grades.

Using these mechanics wisely keeps your stars productive and growing.

3. Training and Coaching

Good coaching and smart training choices make a huge difference.

  • Coaching Staff: Hire coaches with strong ratings in key areas like Power, Contact, or Pitching. Coaching now has a clearer impact on how players develop.
  • Manual Training: Auto-assignment is fine, but manual control lets you target a player’s “mentals,” like Vision and Discipline, until they reach solid averages (~60).
  • Pitcher Evolution: Teach pitchers multiple pitch types to expand their arsenal. You can now develop up to six pitches per prospect for maximum upside.

Regularly checking and adjusting training ensures your players aren’t wasting potential.

4. Scouting and Drafting Strategy

Your farm system is only as good as the talent you bring in.

  • Prioritize Potential: Drafting high-potential teenagers often leads to higher long-term value than older MLB-ready players with lower ceilings.
  • Position Scarcity: Early rounds are perfect for premium positions like Shortstop and Catcher. These positions are harder to fill later, so snag top prospects when you can.
  • Scout Efficiency: Assign scouts to specific team needs to gain a small efficiency boost (+1% per matching criterion). This helps you spot hidden gems in the draft and free agency.

A strong scouting system feeds your development engine, keeping your franchise competitive for years.

By carefully managing minors, leveraging new mechanics, customizing training, and smart drafting, you can maximize player growth and build a dynasty in MLB The Show 26. Focus on both the short-term wins and long-term development to create a roster that dominates now and in the future.
