1620 - The Mayflower Compact was signed by the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower. It would provide the basis for all governments of the American colonies.

1831 - Former slave Nat Turner, who led a violent insurrection, was executed in Jerusalem, Virginia.

1889 - Washington became the 42nd state.

1918 - The Allies and Germany signed an armistice, ending World War I. The armistice was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

1921 - The Tomb of the Unknown Solider was dedicated in Arlington National Cemetery.

1929 - The Ambassador Bridge spanning the Detroit River between Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, was dedicated.

1942 - During World War II, Germany completed its occupation of France.

1965 - Rhodesia proclaimed its independence from Britain.

1966 - Gemini 12 blasted off on a four-day mission with astronauts James A. Lovell and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr. aboard; it was the tenth and final flight of NASA's Gemini program.

2009 - For the first time since World War I, the leaders of Germany and France held a joint ceremony to commemorate the end of the conflict, saying it was time to celebrate their countries' reconciliation and friendship.

2018 - World leaders including President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin solemnly marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I at a ceremony in Paris.

1868 - The first indoor amateur track and field meet was held by the New York Athletic Club.

1944 - The New York Rangers set an NHL record of 25 games without a win (0-21-4).

1946 - The New York Knickerbockers (now the Knicks) played their first game at Madison Square Garden, losing to the Chicago Bulls 78-68.

1963 - Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings broke Maurice Richard's NHL record with his 544th career goal.

1981 - Fernando Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Dodgers became the first pitcher to win Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young Award in the same season.

1981 -The Minnesota North Stars scored 8 goals in the second period against the Winnipeg Jets. The North Stars won the game 15-2.

1984 - The Houston Oilers ended a streak of 23 consecutive road losses with a 17-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

1990 - Derrick Thomas of the Kansas City Chiefs set an NFL record with seven sacks in a game against the Seattle Seahawks.

1997 - Roger Clemens of the Toronto Blue Jays became the third player in major league history to win the Cy Young Award four times.

1997 - The WNBA announces expansion franchises for Detroit and Washington, D.C.

2002 - Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants became the first player to in a league MVP award five times.

2002 - The NHL suspended Krzysztof Oliwa (New York Rangers) for five games for a cross-check against Grant Marshall (Columbus Bluejackets) on November 9. Coach Bryan Trottier (New York Rangers) was suspended for two games for sending several enforcers on the ice for the final 2.5 seconds of the same game.

2004 - Shaquille O'Neal of the Miami Heat scored his 22,000th career point.
