I’ve previously asked to be in yall’s little secret wiener club, but evidently I did not meet the standards at the time.

I‘m probably considered too dangerous.

We both hail from the Redneck Riviera and the only difference I can see for me being in the cool kids club is that I wear Gog's colors, garnet and gold, and your swamp lizard ass burns our eyes with that Gogawful orange and blue.

I’m actually a classic liberal, which the NYT tells me now makes me a Republican. Thing is I disagree on a lot on republican viewpoints and I don’t consider myself Republican, yet this new left is weird and scares me….a lot. But I do kind of see how they were created and I don’t really blame the younger ones, but I digress. This is me on the “left” (except in my mid 30’s)

Agree 100%. No room for extremists on either side of the spectrum. I'm a libertarian, so whatever party/candidate is closer to my views is who I'm going for. The government should stay in its lane per the preamble. "promote" is the weakest adverb in it...

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

'"establish" , "provide" "insure", "secure", are requirements. "promote" is the shit that's nice to have, but not required.

Pretty sure that the home/store owners in areas that were destroyed by the "peaceful protesters" in the last coupla years did not have their domestic tranquility insured...

Who took their eye off the ball as to what the federal government's job is? Pretty much everyone who has been sent to Washington in the last 65 years. No one since WWII, had a slight bump after 9/11, but nothing else...

Welcome to the world of libertarianism. We are or will become the last vestige of civility and actual progress going forward. Both parties have gone to their lowest common denominators. Time for a third party of more "centrists" to take over and bring something to the table as far as the peaceful running of the country is concerned...

The divide is by design. If a lot of people stepped away from their keyboards and had a BBQ, they would realize they’re not as different as they have convinced themselves. I definitely now identify as an anti-democrat! They have MSM, Hollywood, and big tech in their pocket and people are waking up. I’m definitely a “I want to bring my gun and weed to my gay friends’ wedding”, live and let live type of person. I may not know exactly what I am politically but I am definitely anti-leftist/ anti-woke! Cheers!

You might like this part from a Reason Magazine (libertarian magazine edited by Matt Welch of The Fifth Column podcast which you might like) interview, it’s an interview with lefty Anthony Bourdain. I think its impossible to discuss politics virtually because there’s so much nuance to a thoughtful person that it’s difficult to express oneself fully on a message board where TLDR is said for two paragraphs. Plus I hate arguing and I’m trying to learn about the views of the person I’m talking to and why they have those views, I’m not looking to win or lose a pointless fight. Anyways, I’m digressing again…

CNN’s “Parts Unknown” host recently said he has “utter contempt” for President-elect Donald Trump, but in a new interview with Reason magazine he sounded off on his ideological allies’ for denying opponents “basic humanity and [the] legitimacy of their views. The utter contempt with which privileged Eastern liberals such as myself discuss red-state, gun-country, working-class America as ridiculous and morons and rubes is largely responsible for the upswell of rage and contempt and desire to pull down the temple that we’re seeing now,” the chef said while promoting his new cookbook, “Ecco.”

“I’ve spent a lot of time in gun-country, God-fearing America. There are a hell of a lot of nice people out there, who are doing what everyone else in this world is trying to do: the best they can to get by, and take care of themselves and the people they love. When we deny them their basic humanity and legitimacy of their views, however different they may be than ours, when we mock them at every turn, and treat them with contempt, we do no one any good,” the chef said.
“Nothing nauseates me more than preaching to the converted. The self-congratulatory tone of the privileged left — just repeating and repeating and repeating the outrages of the opposition — this does not win hearts and minds. It doesn’t change anyone’s opinions. It only solidifies them, and makes things worse for all of us. We should be breaking bread with each other, and finding common ground whenever possible. I fear that is not at all what we’ve done.”

Mr. Bourdain added that Bill Maher of HBO’s “Real Time” epitomizes “insufferably smug” liberalism.
“[He’s] really the worst of the smug, self-congratulatory left,” the chef told Reason. “I have a low opinion of him. I did not have an enjoyable experience on his show. Not a show I plan to do again. He’s a classic example of the smirking, contemptuous, privileged guy who lives in a bubble. And he is in no way looking to reach outside, or even look outside, of that bubble, in an empathetic way.”
