Common sense applies: Mask up if someone nearby is an at risk because you don't know if you're infected. Just common courtesy to those at risk. I am not going to mask up for a 16 year old kid walking by. But if I am in a store and an 80 year old is nearby, I'm moving on or masking up.

If you're the kinda asshole who walks past some 80 year old without a mask or knowledge that you've had a solid immuno response to the actual virus. You're just full on dick mode.

Masks have effectiveness based on what they are. Obviously an N95 would be great, a cloth mask lesser, and a dumbass gaiter no effect.

CDC wears an N95 to protect them. Inhale vs exhale. Outbound even a shitty mask will prevent you from sending out particles. (Source isolate vs influx).

It's all about minimizing risk. I don't wear a seatbelt because I think I will survive a headon collision with a tractor trailer carrying 20 cars. But I have a pretty good feeling I can survive a dumbass kid running a stoplight.

So tell me. You good with killing someone's grandpa because it's too much a pain in the ass to toss on a mask? How much effort does it require of you.

^^^^ This is what its like in East Tennessee... matter of fact the only place I have to wear a mask is at work. They report you to your boss if you are seen more than once in the building without a mask. Funny this is no one in my group wears a mask once we get in our area. Literally the only time I put on my mask is if I am coming into or leaving the building... once I hit the door or the elevator I take it off and put it in my pocket.

Pffft... If grandpa is so fragile maybe he should stay his ass at home and order online or have his family bring by what he needs. Hell I have not worn a mask in a store or public in over 10 months. I have never once intentionally avoided an old person when coming in contact within close proximity. Course I have not come down with the 'vid but hell you never know for sure until you get tested.

Also about your outbound comment ... it would stop large particles... fine and minute particles easily go thru cloth masks. I have spoken to more than one person in the healthcare ( I worked IT in healthcare for over 10 years before joining the company I'm with now.) and they all agree that unless you are wearing an N95 then staying 6ft away is more effecting than any of the crappy masks that are out there.

So to sum up, fuck grandpa he has lived a long life, and maybe its time to distribute his estate.

Sorry I worded that poorly. I was not calling you a communist. I meant based on our conversation about raising kids and communism, I would (hate to but) assume you feel masks don’t matter “if you raise em right”.

Both my kids wear masks to school, my son is still as social as ever with his core group of buddies, and my daughter has always been picky opting to latch onto the cutest boy in class typically (5th grade), this will give me much heartburn in the future.

Kids are pretty resilient and adapt quickly. I often have to remind my son he can take his mask off in the car, but honestly he rather enjoys it lately cuz the weather's been getting colder.

Think about this... There are kids today who are 5 years (Kindergarteners) old who have no recollection of seeing strangers faces. Hell, some may have no idea of their parents' faces.
