The 1st trimester only debate comes in primarily under the guise of souls which is religious. Ignoring that marker itself makes it bad faith. It's not akin to the enslavement of human life or the genocide of a specific race.

What the real debate is with this is, human life and human soul being tied together with one part being said out loud and the other not at all.

Does a clumped mass inside a stomach, devoid of human shape still with the sperm completely intact outside the egg, does it have life, does it have a soul? Life, yes, soul, well, that's the religious debate.

A heartbeat starts around 5 weeks, well within the first trimester. Unique DNA - what makes you different than I - starts well before that.

At the end of the day, we are both "clumps of cells". We have just been granted the ability to move beyond the stage of humanness that some feel is ok to kill.

Just because it doesn't look like you or I doesn't make it less human. A caterpillar is the same organism as the butterfly it becomes. These arguments of "its not fully human" are just a distraction. It is what it is, and what it will become.

Brother, trust me, I am on board with you 100% personally. I have two other children that were lost at 28 weeks, twins. I don't care what anyone says, those are my babies as well.

Oh see, that's where you and I agree. I agree it is living, and I agree it is human. I even agree it has a soul but my main point to why I'm pro let them do whatever 1st trimester is because the argument that's been made over and over on this issue rests from a religious moral point of souls which, science will say isn't provable. That's my line in the sand with freedom and that's all absence of religious arguments with freedom because just as we don't want to live under Taliban rule, others won't want to live with other religious rules within the bounds of freedom. Idk if I'm conveying what I'm trying to say well and it's frustrating me.

I must not be picking up what you are putting down. It sounds like you are saying: "I believe the unborn babies are human. But since some people don't and I don't want to push my set of morals on someone else, I'll stand silent while they abort them.." Which to me is another level of evil in itself.

Science seems pretty clear on the issue, and anywhere else besides in a womans' uterus we would call an unborn baby a unique life.

I won't push my moral view of the child having a soul on those who don't believe in it. I don't want religious held belief near freedom.

It's the dumb ass hill I die on because I know all too well what moralistic laws can do to a people who aren't beholden to those principles.

Which brings me back to my original argument - people didn't think of black people or Jews as "having souls" or "being human".

Edmund Burke had a quote about that.... Something about evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

Lots of people think gays don't have souls, so its not worth it for me to try to inject my morals to keep them alive.
