My grandfather served two tours in WWII in the South Pacific. He never would talk about it. He never told my father either. My father told me stories that he heard from my grandfather's friends when my grandfather had too much to drink discussing war stories around his friends. Horror. All I rememeber is my grandmother burned his shoe box full of pictures of half-naked women from the islands.
My great uncle was the same way. He would only talk about it when he was drinking, and not a lot then. I do know he told me about having survived getting his ship torpedoed by taking a life jacket off his dead buddy. That’s about all he would say.My grandfather served two tours in WWII in the South Pacific. He never would talk about it. He never told my father either.
