Insufferable Optimist Fans

I remember going to UCFs 3rd bowl game ever in 2009 vs Rutgers, seeing some old timers (fans before 1996) and asking how they thought we'd do.

"We are going to get smoked." And we did lose that game....

I just joined UCFs message board. The common phase which as kinda in jest and kinda serious was, "We're Doomed." While perpetual pessimist, can be UCFunny, they get annoying after a while. I prefer the opposite.

I have always found the eternal optimist and positive believer to be inspiring, refreshing, UCFunny and something to be cherished.

It's like that UCFriend who is with you in the stands when you're down by 24 with 2 minutes to go, "all we need is a couple turnovers, and a few quick scores, and We Are Back in this!" The tshirt bandwagoners and fair weather fans left the game a loooong time ago.

The Enternal Optimist is there. There through the toughest times. And there during the during the best of times. Still there when you're up 62-0 and are just running out the clock, like I was. And most importantly, they are there when the biggest comebacks happen.

I very much see myself as a Realist. That may surprise you. But I strive to be what inspires me, and that's an Etneral Optimist.

Which type of fan / person are you?

It's amazing how much has changed since 2009. UCF had no hope of beating a mighty Big East team. Now we would be laughed at if we lost to Rutgers. UCF now dominants the AAC / Big East. The landscape has changed. I myself have changed. And I think it's all for the better. I'm super excited what will happen in the UCFuture of FBS. But as a Realist, I know no non ESP5N Cartel team will ever be invited to this invitational, irregardless of any possible events happening. Sometimes it has to get really bad before it gets better.

I am blindly optimistic regardless of what stands in our way. I remember the doldrums from the 90s to early 2000s when we were recovering from what was just short of the death penalty. Now I am super excited every season to see what's in store!
I was a Bama fan from the time I was a little kid watching Coach Bryant on the sidelines at Legion Field. I was a Bama fan during the whole Dubose, Shula, Francione debacle and the destruction of the program due to sanctions. I have had the privilege to watch two of the greatest CFB coaches of all time on the sideline at Bryant Denny Stadium. I will be a Bama fan until they bury me regardless of the record.

Well, ain't that the way it's supposed to be? Might have year(s) where there is not much to rave about but a fan nevertheless. And, with BAMA, same here. It's where I got my deep seated hatred against ND even tho the barn is #1 hate. And even with some, er, "lean" years, I've stood by BAMA.

I bleed old gold and blue but, but I'm very much a realist. I mean, it's West Virginia.
Though I will say this; there hasn't been this kind of 'air' in Morgantown since
Don Nehlen came to town. Coach Brown is instilling a new culture, and though
he has little to work with, I actually trust he'll get us to levels we're not used to.
Just a gut feeling.

I was raised a USC fan from birth and suffered through the late 80’s and the entire 90’s with consistent bad coaching and long streaks of losing to our rivals. After Carroll left I have suffered through sanctions, and more horrendous coaches, but I will still continue to root for USC.

As I’ve aged I have stopped throwing things at the tv and have learned to just appreciate the athleticism of both USC players and opponents. I still dislike that government school across town with a passion, but have come to respect most other teams. Simply put, I enjoy watching the passion that comes with college football.

In the end though I would consider myself a realist. While I will still hope for a win, when I see better coaching on the other sidelines, I accept our fate.

I think most fans here are realistic. I have seen ND twice in my life as a 3-9 team. I have seen ND skip the post season as a 6 win team (even though everyone complains about .500 teams getting in a bowl) and have seen ND at the top of the mountain.

Though some push the boundaries beyond even fanatical.

I'm a realist, if Iowa football is good, awesome, but in all honesty I dont really go into the season thinking that they will be, (which drives me absolutely fucking nuts because I'm a wrestling fan first and foremost and I expect Iowa to win everything all the time, everytime, and the last 10 years have drove me almost insane, fck u penn state). Ok rant over back to football, I have come to the realization that ferentz and company have to prove to me every year that they are better than average, because except for a few years they just aren't, which annoys the hell out of me, it's about winning dammit. (Without breaking the rules).

Pretty much how I am with Oklahoma State Wrestling. If it's anything short of a National Title I'm highly disappointed in the season.
