One of these things is not like the other. You had one fucking job, Kelly.

I spent years on Rivals taking flack from the sunshine pumper crowd about how I wasn't giving Kelly a chance, or it wasn't his fault. I mean I heard just about every excuse you can think of. I was talking to LSUDude the other day, and told him the same thing. For the honest LSU fans I am so sorry for what is about to happen to you. And believe me those of you in that part of the country are getting ready to hear them all also. "It is a rebuilding year, they didn't have the enough time to prepare, X player was playing injured". As if somehow magically Kelly's teams have these obstacles but no one team they play ever does.

At the end of the day, there are two things that I could never understand or get past under Kelly coached teams. They played scared to death to make a mistake, and they play super tight. Knowing at any moment if they make a mistake they will get put in the corner or chewed out on national TV or lose their spot in rotation etc. And because of that, they just never seemed emotionally in the right place for games.

I cannot, for the life of me, ever recall you having one critical/negative thing to say about Kelly.

Guy has won at every spot he’s been at and is now at a school who has won with shittier and dumber coaches.

I think people are a bit too reactionary to a tough week one loss to an improving FSU team.

I see you’re back on the bandwagon.

I am. I got 'em in my top 25 this week, not because of the freakish crazy win over the corndogs, but because of the way they played. When you got a team full of players that never quit, good things are gonna happen. Norvell finally has the culture changed in Tallahassee. You could see from his response Sunday night that he saw what he was working towards come to fruition. I ain't saying they gonna make the playoff or win the ACC, but they ain't an easy out for anyone. Not anymore. (I do think they beat Florida this year, you read it here first.)

Here is what I would say there. I don't think Kelly is a bad coach, I just don't think he is a great one. I think he is in the same bracket as Franklin, Harbaugh, Riley, and about a dozen other coaches that are good for about 9 or 10 wins a year and a decent bowl showing here and there.

What I think will be his real problem is that I don't think he fits the culture overall down there. And that ultimately is why he won't be successful. He just isn't a good fit. And this isn't a northerner can't win in the south vice versa, but his whole thing is very counter culture to what LSU and the SEC is used to. He is more demanding then what they are used to, and much more about himself then he is about team, school etc. And in an era of the transfer portal and NIL. I just don't see it.

That's a fair observation and I fully agree with it. He's a good coach, but he is completely out of his comfort zone. Add to that, he has no sense of humor and makes most "fuddy duddy's" look like amateurs. Did he come from the "Dan Mullen" recruiting tree?

The lady that did this, made a tik tok explaining it, and owning it. Basically she showed up 'on time' instead of early like she is normally, and Kelly was already started.

You can find it if you want. But if you do, the one thing that will strike you, is that when she is talking about her interaction with him, she never calls him 'coach' or Kelly, it is just Brian the whole time and she says it like 3 or 4 times. Up here everyone called him Coach, or Coach Kelly. I can't remember anyone referring to Orgeron as Ed, it was always Coach O, etc. And I can't imagine anyone walks into a Bama presser and just goes 'Hey Nick, about this week'. I thought that was very telling. Just a personal observation, but to me it was a big one.

What do you think Saban and Kirby and Jimbo are? I’d certainly say they’re super red assed and demanding.

I'm saying this as I see it from my angle and following the guy for the last 12 years, he is him first, his contract second, his options for the NFL in any given year third, and maybe, depending on the player or school. They might be as high as 4th or 5th on his list, but I wouldn't bet on that either. And when you are a great level coach at the d2 level winning nattys. You can be that way. But when you are the little fish in a big pond that includes NIL and the transfer portal. Then throwing your players under the bus, and blaming everyone except yourself on TV ain't winning you hearts and minds. Does Saban get hot on TV? Yup. Does Jimbo? Does Kirby? What else do those three coaches have in the D1 that Kelly doesn't?

A National Title, sure. But Jimbo is a decade removed from his and has yet to replicate the success of his early FSU tenure and has also been not shy about looking at other schools, the NFL, and what can be done for him.

No one would argue Kelly over Saban and Kirby but if you’re LSU you’re not getting those guys.

There isn’t a top ten coach in college football who isn’t any of the above things you’ve listed. It’s the nature of the sport and position.

This is again, LSU, who has proven it doesn’t take genius to win a National Title. I again, think people are overreacting, which is natural to a point, over a tough loss.

Me, I’d rather look at the resume of both the Coach and the School and determine that I think they’ll be much better moving forward.

Cool, you do you. I am just using my experience of following the guy for the last decade plus.

I understand, I know the angst initially from getting scorned by a coach. Just stating my case. We’ll see over the next few seasons.

Believe me, I don't feel scorned. I have wanted him gone, for years. I would rather be on the record being honest saying I wanted him out years ago and see him successful at LSU or where ever than for something like the new HC not be successful and people think that I would have rather had Kelly on campus. He has been trying to leave ND since 2012, and finally got his wish.
