Flying tomorrow to Manchester to spend a few days in our office in the area. Usually I stay in Chester and take a 20 minute train ride to and from the office. This weekend though there are planned labor strikes on the trains so no Chester. Will be very little touristy stuff on this trip. Weather of course looks crappy.

Was supposed to have been in the Amsterdam office since Monday and then had a couple meetings in London today but I ended up canceling this week’s activities. Which annoyed the missus as I always have enough time when changing trains in Brussels to stock up on chocolate.

I want to visit the Cheshire area, have ancient family from the area, and friend (possible relative from colonial SC) that lives south of Chester.

I have always wanted to go to Venice, although I have been told to bring nose plugs. I used to want to visit Paris, but not these days. Youtbe tour and a beer in front of the computer is usually good for me right now.

Paris is still worth it. There's just a vibe in the air when there. No recent terrorist attacks. I went just after the Charlie Hebdo attack and the concert attack. The concert attack was a block away, behind from my apartment. The tourist areas and airport had armed soldiers visible, but there was no alarm in the streets.

I was in Paris for a couple of weekend days about four years ago on my way to our office in Aix-en-Provence. The full day I was there was the day of the patisserie explosion. I was awoken to text alerts from my travel service and later in the day texts and calls from friends and family who just assumed I was probably at higher than normal risk of being in or near a random bakery that blew up.

Worth the trip. Chester is a pretty decent place to call base. Queen Hotel is literally 50 yards from the train platforms.
