Is the ACC about to come apart at the seams?

The ACC could soon have a crisis on its hands.

The Action Network's Brett McMurphy reported Monday that Clemson, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech have had conversations with lawyers to explore "just how unbreakable" the ACC's grant-of-rights deal is.

In the case of the ACC, the dollars and cents speak for themselves. Per Dellenger, its members schools could make $30 million per year less than their SEC and Big Ten peers by 2026.

but where would they go?
SEC/B10 might be interested in CU, FSU n UNC,
but who knows when,
and what about enough of the others
to break the GOR?
B12?
oh, what the hell,
we'll take em -

FSU and Clemson would make the SEC cut. The rest are on their own.
sure, but even that wouldn't happen anytime soon,
the earliest i'd suspect,
would be a year or two after the OU/UT addition,
and they're not even in the conf yet -

the posturing by the 7 schools
aint gonna amount to anything -
that big talk
dont mean doodly squat -

I'd say if the B10 takes UW and Oregon, FSU and Clemson are SEC bound.

People seem to be so certain about the landing spots.

But it makes more sense for both of FSU/Miami join the BIG
FSU is one of the few schools that seems like it would fit in both the B1G or SEC. I’d add UNC and UVA to that list, maybe GT as well. I have no idea what the fan preferences are, nor what the admins are looking for. Either way, they have a soft landing if the ACC blows up.

I think we’re well past the traditional “fit” argument anyway. It’s not like USC and Northwestern (private schools) have a ton in common with relative newcomers Nebraska, PSU, Rutgers or Maryland.

The way GT left the SEC, they will never get invited back. They're irrelevant now and forever.

I don’t know the circumstances, but they wouldn’t add anything to the SEC that UGA doesn’t already deliver much better on their own. But they are in the South, so it makes geographic sense, not that they embrace the football culture.

***Wow, I just looked it up, GT left because they wanted more than the 140 allowable scholarships? They had a whole different view of sports in 1964 it seems. Hard to imagine anyone giving the SEC ultimatums these days.

I’m not convinced the ACC will actually dissolve this year (not intel, just my opinion) but I know this is a concern in Colorado and Arizona right now. This risk might make them jumpy
