Calling the forced amateurism of student-athletes "a bankrupt model," California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a first-in-the-nation bill Monday that clears the way for college players to be paid from endorsement deals.

IF the NCAA balks then all Cali teams will be forbidden from NCAA Competition.

IF the NCAA caves, that sets the pace for blue bloods to run the land forever

From the article:The NCAA acknowledged in a statement Monday that its current regulations on amateurism will need to change...

It will be interesting to see if the NCAA does come up with their own protocol for this issue. If not, California teams very well could be forbidden from NCAA competitions, which means this will probably end up in court.

NCAA should ban Cali teams from all competition and fine any school that plays them, immediately.

Unfortunately, the NCAA is a bunch of pusses.

This would probably be doing us a favor. With our coaching staff and recruiting taking a nose dive, it would probably give us a chance to re-group, or put us out of our misery for good.

It is nothing against the schools. The California government should not be involved. If the NCAA had any Alpha in them they could shut it down now.

Our (California) government puts their dirty little hands into everything, but I will stop there or else this will end up in the Knoxville pit of misery.

The times they are a changing. And with money involved who knows how far down this rabbit hole goes.

Just for the record, the Pac 12 doesn't like this idea:

However, the Pac-12, which is home to four California schools, is against the new law. "It will have very significant negative consequences," the conference wrote in a statement.

I could see the Pac12 just ignoring the law, but it does seem they wouldn't be able to prevent individuals from seeking endorsements. This is going to be a shit show before its resolved.

I can see the PAC ignoring it too. Which will lead to this ending up in court. You are definitely right, it is going to be a shit show before it is resolved.
