Yeah, I've been won over to the 12 team scenario as well.

The top 4 teams all get a bye, so it doesn't completely render the regular season meaningless, which makes it better than an 8 team playoff.

I would schedule the first round just after conference championships but before bowl games.

That way there wouldn't be such a CFB gap, and the 4 losing teams could still be slated for bowl games and not end their season on a sour note.
