I remember a news story from 2000 that involved a 17 year old girl who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in an apartment in Berkeley. It was later revealed that Lakireddy Bali Reddy, one of the city’s largest landlords, was a major human trafficker. He smuggled dozens of girls from India using fraudulent visas, exploiting them for forced labor and, in some cases, sexual slavery. The girl and her younger sister were among his victims, held in abusive conditions in the apartment.

Now California legislators want to pass a law that would allow traffickers like Reddy to gain legal control over children based on nothing more than their assertion that they are a “nonrelative extended family member,” with no background checks and no oversight from Child Protective Services. They say this is a response to “President Trump’s reign of terror on California immigrants.”

In other words, they are promoting human trafficking to own the Bad Orange Man.

According to the UN asylum seekers are supposed to seek asylum in the first 'safe country' they enter which is Mexico. That's been on the UN books since the early 1950's.
