Any politician who promises to rob Peter to pay Paul can count on the the support of Paul.

Push this and the SEC/B1G will strip mine the ACC of its best programs, force ND to join the B1G and secede from the NCAA. With 20-24 teams each, they will then set up their own parallel organization and play each other. They're not going to agree to just hand over THEIR money derived from THEIR audiences to subsidize everybody else who has little money because they have few if any fans and generate almost no interest.

Disrupting the image of the student athlete won't benefit any collegiate sport. We all know most football players don't attend the best classes and attendance is sparse but the image we have of cold Saturdays, bands playing, and students in the stands play a huge roll in why we love college sport.

I don't see the SEC or BIG doing this or allowed too.

The image of the student athlete? That's yesteryear's talking point. College athletics is quite openly a big business now. These are paid professionals.

You see it as some select schools hold the rights to a minor league farm system? It's not yesteryear, coverage starts with showing the bands mascots and students in the stands as well as showing the campus. It is a big business being exactly what I described, we try to break off it will get blocked.

I see it as the SEC and B1G have the fans. Thus they have the money. Why should they subsidize all the little programs that have few fans and no money?

I don't see Congress blocking the SEC and B1G from seceding. That would be anti competitive. This is supposed to be a free country with a free market economy. Well......that's the market. Competition.

It's not that I don't understand where you are coming from I just don't think that will happen, college football thrives because of what it is and I can't think of farm systems that ever do well. The integrity of the sport the way it is helps the ratings. The other schools and politicians will fight against this.

Sure they'd fight but....they'd have a tough row to hoe. They would not be fighting for their own freedom or right to do anything. They'd be fighting to keep the SEC and B1G trapped and forced to hand over their money.....ie to treat them like cash cows from whom they could extract subsidies.

Slight derail, do you think baseball goes to a salary cap? One of my best friend's son n law works for the Padres and was told in oh so many words, go look for another job, there will be a lengthy lockout.

Tommy Tuberville says this bill goes too far.
