I was trying to replace some light fixtures yesterday in the upstairs of my house because the old ones are really old and are recessed into the ceiling so the lighting sucked. The ceilings up there are also low, only 7 ft while in the downstairs they are 9ft. So long story short some of the wiring is older up there because of a remodeling job done about 60 some years ago and I suspect that the older stuff was done roughly around ww2 or before. The really old stuff is completely junk. The coating would break as soon as I would bend it and I found 2 places that I could see that were bare. I am going to have to rewire the entire upstairs of my house. I know that the downstairs wiring is all in the 60 to 70 year age but is in decent shape.

Good luck with it! Sometimes the best tool in the toolbox is a checkbook, just sayin'. A complete rewire isn't easy (or cheap).
The first house we were renting in Pueblo still had the old "knob and tube" wiring in it. Talk about dangerous! Example picture:

Yeah it can be darn expensive. I have seen that stuff before and it's just a fire waiting to happen

a complete rewire means taking the walls down to the studs,, here's an idea for some of your wall replacements,, you can get the look of ship lap with inexpensive plywood,,
Take a normal 4x8 sheet and rip it to 8 pieces 7 7/8 by 8 ft.. then put them on the wall starting at the ceiling and working down,, space with a nickel,, and stagger the joints the best you can... It makes a good looking wall..

Not necessarily. You CAN rewire from the attic using a pull wire, but in most cases it's actually easier to cut out sections of the drywall do the rewire and then replace the sheetrock.

Or you can tell the wife to skip Target shopping for a month and use the money saved to pay a professional. Oh who am I kidding, that’s never going to happen. Carry on.

Good morning. I had a busy day yesterday. Did chores, went to church, drove an hour and a half to inlaws to pick up 2 horses that my wife decided needed to come here. (Wish she would have decided that on Thursday, I would have pulled the trailer up on Thanksgiving.) Got the horses home, did chores, jumped back in the car and made it to Iowa city for the wrestling meet last night. #1 Iowa beat #6 Wisconsin 32 to 3.

I will tell you about today then as well. 2 hours of chores, went and found a wayward bull, went to the bank, picked up some feed at the elevator, I'm eating leftover meatloaf as I type this. This afternoon I've got to go pick up 3 loads of round bales, go to 2 junior high girls basketball games at 4:30, and end up feeding calves in the dark.
