I'll be 54 in February and I've never been to Lamar County where my Pops grew up. I should probably be ashamed of that. When we were kids, Pops never wanted to take us there, so I always felt like there was no reason to go. Now that he's been gone for 8+ years, my curiosity is getting to me and I'm thinking about making the trip just to see what he never wanted to go back to.

I dont know much about Lamar county,, but seeing the location on maps (between Tuscaloosa and Starkville a bit to the north) and judging by your age and the estimated years your dad was there (50's & 60's).. It was probably a poor and harsh place to be.. just like you cant step in the same creek twice,, you'll probably never see what he saw.. but it would be cool to go Road Trip it :)

Based on what his family tells me, it hasn't changed much at all since way back then. I'll prolly make that road trip in the next year or so.

It hasn't happened yet, but is in the works. I've only been back to bama a short while, then came back out to CO for the holidays. I plan on trying to put together a meet up with the gang after the first of the year.

I watched the UGA versus Oklahoma Rose Bowl while on a cruise. He'll be watching but not likely posting here. BTW, I think SoCal wins.

Lots of good folks in a close area there. Let me know when you want to put it together, I've made that 5 hour drive many times for much lesser reasons.
