CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. —
The Calhoun County Commission plans to fight a plan to quarantine coronavirus patients in Anniston.
The federal government announced some passengers from the Diamond Princess cruise ship will be housed at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston.

big stink here right now,, just to summarize,, We have a very large Army facility here (FT McClellan) that was closed down years ago.. a large portion of that land has been repurposed and given to the city and has now become a community called McClellan.. there are still some portions of the Fort owned by the govt. and some Army stuff still goes on (chemical warfare school for one), and there is a FEMA center there..
Fema and DHS (dept of human services) both federal agencies made this decision without consulting with local authorities..

But really, this is an outstanding read on the 1917 /18 flu epidemic and on influenza in general. Highly recommend it.

Thanks for posting, I have spent considerable time in cemeteries (genealogical research and hired to survey, at times) and have noticed entire families, or all their children, buried in 1917-1918, in many cemeteries, due to the great influenza.

It really makes no sense to spread it around the country, keep it in the already affected states. I would think an isolated base in the middle of a desert would be preferable.
the thing most people around here are saying is that the more they transport these people the greater the risk of exposure.. also, they (Feds) have said that if someone develops illness requiring hospitalization, they will transported to pre arranged hospitals, but they havent said which ones.. curious..

Yeah, hope you don't call 911 for an ambulance and they say they are all tied up at the base, we'll send one as soon as we can.

Uhh, no thanks! I'll manage.
