Seriously cannot recommend this book strongly enough.

Satchel Paige because he was ageless and fearless and would have been an all time great if given the real chance and he lived here and died here and is buried here and he was one of Buck O’Neil’s best friends. Google Buck’s story about why Satchel always called him “Nancy”.

That’s how politics used to work. For the most part. Significant, even vehement, differences of opinion but to a great extent without the broad-brush demonization of opposition we currently see. Losing Jimmy Carter is losing one of the final few links to a different time.

The guy was above politics for the last 40 years of his life. He left a blueprint for what an ex-President can be and can accomplish in the arena of being a steward for the good of society. May he rest in very well earned peace.

Next time you do this I’ll chip in a few bucks to the charity pot.

I tried it on the advice of another customer at the liquor store five or six years ago. Very few bottles have I come across that I absolutely disliked. This was one of them. And I really wanted to like it because it’s got a great backstory.
