And don't forget he did it again in 07 upsetting #5 WVU in Tampa@CouchOnFire
The 2006 season marked Grothe's first action on the football team after redshirting all of USF's 2005 bowl season. He won the starting quarterback spot over senior Pat Julmiste in the first game of 2006 against McNeese State. The national buzz continued for Grothe, the 2006 Big East Conference Rookie of the Year, after he led his team to an upset of No. 7 West Virginia on the road in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He also led USF to an OT upset of #17 Auburn to open that 07 season in Jordan-Hare Stadium@CouchOnFire

Just reading about that.
Dude was a true dual threat. Definitely a baller.
As a senior in high school, he was named to the Super Southern 100 by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, was named the Florida Class 4A Player of the Year, and, finished 2nd by the closest margin ever for Mr. Football in the state of Florida behind Antone Smith, former 5-star RB for FSU.
That was quite the upset. Glad it was early in the year, but that didn't matter in the endAnd don't forget he did it again in 07 upsetting #5 WVU in Tampa
I think we went to the Sugar Bowl that year@CouchOnFire
