Who would have thought that Oregon would have wins over 2 of the top 4 preseason teams and not be in the playoff?

Oregon names former Georgia WR as interim coach (msn.com)

The Oregon Ducks have named former Georgia Bulldogs interim coach and player Bryan McClendon as their interim head coach.

McClendon served as Georgia’s interim head coach in the 2016 Tax Slayer Bowl after Mark Richt was fired. Georgia won the game 24-17 over Penn State.

Two teams in transition. Both with interim coaches for the bowl game. Not what pretty much anyone would have thought at the beginning of the season.....

Lots of things happening that no one would've predicted at the beginning of this season. Frankly, the only thing that would top all that we've seen in the last couple of weeks is Saban announcing his retirement.

Honestly, wouldn't be surprising after living through 2020 and then this year's carousel. And it's not over til Oregon makes their hire (and prolly still not over after that). If Saban made that announcement next month, can you imagine the absolute circus that would ensue?? lol

Jokes aside, McClendon will be making his second appearance as an interim head coach with a spread of 5 years between the 2. That speaks volumes about the fact that he should have already been offered an HC job. He's a helluva coach, a helluva recruiter, and has an excellent pedigree.

Sounds like maybe he needs a new agent.

I think his biggest problem is that he's gotten bad reviews from his head coaches (I can't say this for sure, but I think it). He has a tendency of telling the truth no matter how brutal it is. When you have a boss that gets pissed because you are right, that usually doesn't provide positive input towards career development.

Seems like Richt is a straight shooting kinda guy that could deal with the truth. Or are you referring to his coordinators?

Dare to dream. He’s got Ice for another year or two.

LOL, not even dreaming of it because nobody thinks it would happen any time soon. Although, Saban doesn't strike me as the kinda guy that would announce his retirement in the preseason just to get a victory lap either. I could see him doing something like that only to not screw with recruiting for the Tide.

I have a well established track record of being a Richt fan. I was very pissed when he got fired. You've been around long enough to know that what your boss says about you to you and what he says about you to others, doesn't always sound the same. I got a couple of less than desirable fitness reports from guys that told me to my face that I made them look good back in my Corps days.

Unless Miss Terry tells him different. Gog forbid that other thing happen. I mean Bear didn't make it to 70.

I'm not dreaming or wishing, or any other word you can come up with, but when you start getting old, the shit that happens to old people gets more attention in your mind when you are trying to go to sleep.

Yeah, that's the truth. I got really lucky throughout my career to not have to work for too many shitheads like that (very very few). As I became more senior, I had the opportunity to have input (review input....not reviewing officer, but administrative kind of review) on fitness reports that the officers were writing. I would ask them, for some of their more critical reports, if they had any counseling records of why they were marking this Marine so low. What did they do during the reporting period to let this guy know that he was not performing up to expectations? That kind of thing. Some times I would get through to them that maybe the entire problem wasn't with their Marines and sometimes it was fruitless. I like to think, though, that maybe I played some small part in helping those officers be better leaders.

As I have come to know the story of the Bear from some reading years ago, it is interesting. He knew he was sick but fulfilled his obligations to BAMA before announcing his retirement. That is a loyalty that is hard to find these days. I'll leave it at that.

I don't think it's a done deal but he may be Oregon's next coach. Him or Kalani Sitake are the most likely people at this point.

That's a story I'm unfamiliar with but I'd love to read it. I bleed Red N Black, but I have an endearing respect for Coach Bryant that was ingrained in me by my Pops. He was "old school hard". I tell people I work with all the time......."Retire????........fuck that, I'm gonna die at work."
