What is happening at OU sucks for the program. Not sure how long it will take OU to recover.

Think this won't happen to your team? Think again.

It is a program killer. It will only get worse.

Might as well just call college football what it is: NFL's free farm league. The world has changed so much, there is no such thing as loyalty or school pride anymore. It's all about me me me. Good for those kids that get paid, and maybe I'm just getting old, but it just doesn't seem like people care about honor anymore, from the top to the bottom.

Not true.......

Georgia’s Jordan Davis ‘bittersweet’ approaching Senior Day, shines bright like a diamond (dawgnation.com)

“It’s something I never expected in a million years,” Davis said of his stardom. “It’s an honor, I’m blessed, it’s one of those things you think about.

“It takes a village to raise a child, and I’m glad I chose this village.”

“Georgia isn’t for everybody, but if it is for you‚ and you want to be coached hard and you want to do something special, then this is the place for you,” Davis said. “It’s hard work. It’s tough, offseason is tough. It can make you or break you.

“People say pressure builds diamonds or busts pipes, and I want to be one of the diamonds.”

Davis, like his defensive linemate Devonte Wyatt, could have declared for the NFL draft last season and been living the professional life.
But he’s never wavered on his decision to return and is intent on making the most of it.
“Definitely it was worth it, (and) I can say for myself, I’m having the most fun I’ve had since I’ve been here,” Davis said.

“Not even just football, but football aside, I’m taking the time to actually be a student, go to events around campus and interact with people. Not just football players and not just athletes.
“I want to make sure at the end of the day, I squeezed as much as I could out of this college experience because you only get to do it once.”

I like that. Seems rare nowadays.

I'm pretty sure the dark side of the portal belongs to those hundreds of players that chose to enter and ended up with nowhere to go. It ain't about the program, it's about the players.

I understand that but the program creates the opportunity. Destroy that and the players have nothing.

I have no issue compensating players as long as it is a level playing field.

I am simply concerned about the game we love.

The transfer portal got us to 9 wins so far, so Im a fan. It helps to level the playing field when you are competing against teams with more than half of their team has 4-5 stars.

Gary said it is all Tank’s fault.

LOL

It’s the Portal’s fault, not the Coach who recruited all these guys packing up and bolting the day after the last game of the year.

Same with basketball, but they only have to wait one year.

The portal also destroyed Dan Mullen. Look at all the talent he got from the portal. Lots of 4-5 star guys that couldn't win playing time at their first choice school as Freshmen or Sophomores. Since they thought they were too good to ride the bench, they quit. If Florida had finished off Bama, their season would have been better. I firmly believe that. When they lost that game, they quit again.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying ALL players that enter the portal fit this profile. Many do, though. Look at Arik Gilbert. He's still on the roster for UGA after transferring from LSU, but he hasn't been seen on the practice field, much less played a down. He's listed as "out for personal reasons.".

Apply the same thought process to all these 18-20 year olds that you do to those kids you have to deal with at work every day. Kids that age don't want to start at the bottom and work their way up anymore. They want to be on top as soon as they show up.

We've been very fortunate with the portal. Just this year, Will Levis (PSU), Wan'Dale Robinson (Nebraska), Dare Rosenthal (LSU), and Jacquez Jones (Ole Miss). All transferred in from P5 schools and all are starters. I chalk this up to quality recruiting/evaluation by the coaching staff.

It works well for some, others not so much. Evaluation by the coaching staff. You nailed it, right there. Not just evaluating the player, but the person, as well. This is why Stoops just got an extension, and Mullen is unemployed.

I think I just creamed my jeans.
