I think it's time CFB takes a break from the SEC. The programs of the SEC already want a break from each other. This may not be my finest work, but I am proud of it nonetheless:

Hard no :)

That ACC is terrible.
Good to see you, IB. Here’s a thought I’ve always wrestled with:

Instead of the Big East football conference launching in 1991 with BC, Miami Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, VT, and WVU, I think it’s possible that we could’ve replaced Temple and VT with Notre Dame and Penn State for an eight-team conference that looked like this:

Boston College
Miami
Notre Dame
Penn State
Pitt
Rutgers
Syracuse
West Virginia

With three strong brands carrying the conference (Miami, ND, PSU), plus access to all the major northwestern and mid-atlantic markets, it’s entirely possible they could’ve landed a TV deal that would’ve exceeded what Notre Dame got from NBC in 1991. On top of that, I think there’s a real possibility Notre Dame joins if you commit to staying an eight-team league, meaning they’d still have five open dates to work with. If you have to, you could’ve given those three unequal revenue shares since, theoretically, the other five members wouldn’t land invites to the B1G or SEC and they’d still make more money than they would in the ACC or Big 12

On top of that, the Big East could’ve beaten the Big Ten to the punch in partnering with NBC to launch a conference network, ensuring everyone stays ahead of the ACC/Big 12 while the ‘big three’ (and most importantly Notre Dame) keeps pace with the Big Ten and SEC.

Now tell me why I’m crazy. :)

ND is too good to join a conference. They are better than everybody. If you don't believe me, just ask them.

First off. Im one of the few ND fans that isn't against conferencing up. And actually think it is beyond time for them to.

And your conference there for that time could have worked. But still, it would have been hard. At the time ND was still playing Michigan every year plus the USC game and usually threw in more B10 games like MSU / Purdue etc. Making a rough 12 game schedule. So I dont know if they would have been able to negotiate a decent schedule.

And @OldDevilDawg I have no problem with ND joining a conference. But I gotta ask. If their goal is national championships not conference championships. Why join one? What would they get from a conference now. That they dont already get, or get better than currently?

College football as a sport has had dozens of opportunities to sideline them and they never do. You think it is just because ND asks them not to?

Not gonna lie. 2025, ND has one hella impressive schedule.
