I’ve been pondering again

I went into SO this morning and read a 20+ page thread about some of you. It’s seems they think this is a place for old people and has been’s. A few of you seem to be missed over there but it’s seems the consensus is this is a place to slowly die into oblivion.

So my question is......What type of forum do you want this to be in your opinion moving ahead into the future? I am a bit confused for several reasons that follow,

1. I have read that several people have left this board. What are those reasons? Does anyone know for sure?
2. I see some that float between here and SO make comments of how slow this forum is. They also have made comments as to a lot of the content here is just boring. Why would that be? I see similar on SO.
3. I have seen a few times that someone new comes in and is banned quickly, either from hard feeling from that purge.....or the content they bring. Why does this happen on a board that supposedly willing to grow members?
4. There is no women here. What is it in your opinion that keeps them away? ....besides the fact that women don’t have a tendency to “talk a lot” on message boards.
5. It seems a lot of the regulars here don’t comment as often. Is everyone just that busy with their lives? Is there another reason lying beneath?

Im just playing the Devils advocate here. What type of board do you members want here? I’m really curious about this!

I’m not aware of people leaving or being banned but most threads just don’t get many replies. The emoji has replaced the response for a lot of people. This thread had 7 views in 90 minutes when I saw it, but no responses. It seems unlikely someone could have no thoughts or opinions at all, but they obviously didn’t want to comment.

As for this forum being slow, it definitely is. I checked in half a dozen times late afternoon till I went to bed as I watched TV and there just wasn’t any activity. That’s one reason women don’t post here. The board demo also trends older, rural and conservative here which might turn off people who don’t relate or want to debate.

TLDR: I have no idea,it seemed to be taking off a few months ago.

Sure, I understand the demographics here. It’s extremely odd that there is 60+ registered members and you never hear from 75% of them. Lurkers are abound evidently but why is there no participation? There is enough generic threads to interact with others here but they elect not to. That is confusing in itself.

I think the lack of sports is the biggest change/challenge. It is/was the common denominator to everyone, including both genders. Without sports, we struggle to find something everyone can tolerate and relate to. The last two years we had two weddings to generate conversation on top of sports. Like the cancelled get together at the gulf beach house, this year (and the forum) has been adversely affected by the pandemic.

I would like there to be more threads and interaction as I assume all of us would, I myself am not necessarily good at driving discussion unfortunately, plus I'm pretty damn busy and dont have time to reply numerous times a day.

As a lady, I can tell you that @PSUTE recently talked me out of leaving due to photo being posted that would be more appropriate to a soft porn site. Ladies do not generally enjoy opening up threads with photos that do nothing more than objectify and in some cases, degrade women. It simply is not appealing.
And we also get tired of constant usage of derogatory descriptive words of women - bitch, c**t, p****y, etc.

I understand that most college football fans that converse on forums such as this are men and do expect some rather juvenile talk, but sometimes y'all go a bit overboard. I limit alot of my participation due to that.

If you want more ladies to come to this board and actively participate, keep the above in mind.

Yes @CFBHome started a forum during a year when it is still in question whether games will be played or not. The fact that we've grown as much as we have is remarkable...

Oh, and when OP found out that dogs were detecting & diagnosing Covid-19 he immediately scheduled a colonoscopy with his neighbor's border collie.

Those are all good points, we missed the NCAAT, spring football and to say that the season is in question is an understatement.

I did see that incident after the fact and I’m sorry that happened. A limited access board was meant to sequester that sort of thing but some haven’t been as diligent as they need to be.

Im glad to hear that you’ll still check in on us once in a while.

First of all it's: "...are no women here." ya dimwit deacon.

Second, how many women "is" on Soundoff these days? We have 2-1/2 here at 5Q.

1. The beautiful-souled @Gentle Horse
2. @pooods
1/2: @Tidergirl-boy

I always forget my screen name until it’s brought up. I may have to go back to my more respectable “ Green Haiku”.

#1: if they have left the board, I would love to know why. It probably doesn't help that I'm super busy.

#2: This forum is definitely slow but most forums are becoming that way. Starting a forum with a new user base in 2020 is an uphill battle. Most settle for reddit, discord or social media.

#3: If they got banned tell them to pm me. Maybe they were confused with spam?

#4: we have a woman mod @FQ_Caroline but she's busy with grad school and is improving her life greatly. (Awesome for her!)

#5: we have a Twitter network of 100,000+ and I need to advertise more.

I have to admit I'm too lazy to ready everyone else's responses so I am positive that others will have said some of the same things I am going to. But since you ask.

How much free time do you have to read a 20+ page thread? Seriously lol. I have generally the longer a thread go, the more it usually just comes down to two people trying to get the last word in an endless loop with someone occasionally jumping in to try to troll or zing someone.

1. It is the off season. This is a football board. And on top of that, with all the anxiety and shit happening in the real world, I wouldn't blame anyone for being to be busy or preoccupied to be on here right now.
2. There is no doubt this board is slower. That's alright. And there are a number of reasons. We have few users. And we aren't attached to a major vendor. I.e. Yahoo, Nexis, Oracle. We are a stand alone board generally made up of people that came here because of administration at said previous vendor board ;) Also boards like this will continue to decline to some amount. When you have places like social media and reddit.
3. I hadn't noticed that. But I don't really get into the politics of this board. After dealing with them for years at the previous board there is such a warm fuzzy feeling in just coming here and talking to people I consider friends about any number of topics. I will leave it to the cat herders for administrating the board. I know and trust every one of them. And have been lucky to moderate with more than 1 of them in the past. I will stand for their character and decision any day of the week. Twice on Saturday ;)
4. I would say there are two reasons for this. First of all the majority of the people on this board again came from a administrative decision of a previous board, and in that base decision no females were part of it that I can remember (yes some like BG did suicide by mod after). And second there wasn't that many women on the other board before we came to this one. I mean of the hundreds of posters I met over there I would say maybe 2 dozen or so were females that posted with any regularity.
5. We still talk. But many of us have close associations with one another. So I text, message some of the people here or talk to them outside of here say on facebook. I can't imagine I am the only one. Also many of us are friends in real life and will call one another or travel to their homes. My guess would be if this was a normal football season without Covid going on, we would see more traffic here. Though still not as much as on SO.

The one last thing I would say on this. Every board is different. And I value this board not being like another one, say Sound Off, or any other. When I was on Sound Off I preferred it to be singular as well. There is no fun in a board just being a carbon copy of another. And I have to admit I don't really go over there. The last time I did was months ago when someone sent me a link about my name coming up over there. And the one thing I noticed that was vastly different was the sheer amount of politics that is on that board now. Compared to it being football based. Which blew my mind. But hey, there is new sheriffs in town and that is how they have chosen to marshal their board. And that's cool. I have no hard feelings against any mod there and still hopefully they consider me a friend. I would say in an election year and as political as our country is, I can more than understand a poster from here going there to be part of that conversation.

Sorry for being long winded. Sitting here at the dentist office waiting on my wife to get done so had plenty of time to type ;)

Exactly....

Starting a college football forum with uncertainty surrounding a Pandemic surely doesn't help. Neither does the decline of stand alone message boards with the ride of Twitter/Etc. Even Reddit is taking a hit.
