I have never been so ready for an early recruiting day signing to be done.

So far ND has lost their 2 biggest recruits this cycle. Though I think 1 of them is going to end up not being worth the drama for his ability. And a 3rd one will most likely defect late to Oklahoma.

It will still be a solid top 5 or top 10 class. But not the top 1 to 5 that we had expected just a month or two ago. I can't imagine what this is like for fans that honestly follow recruiting. And I can't believe in the era of social media just how much grown ass men chase recruits and DM them and this, that and the other. Bonkers.

Seriously though, I like Drew Pyne the guy and he has a huge heart. But in athletic ability. He isn't winning a championship on his shoulders. Did ND beat Clemson this year? Yup. What was his stats in that game?
He was 9/17 for 85 yards. He averaged 5 yards per attempt. He had 4 rushes for 21 yards which was 5.2 per attempt. He was a better RB then a QB. His receiving targets in that game was exactly 3 players. He hit his TE (the best TE in the country) 4 times for 44 yards. 1 of his RB twice for 26 yards, and one of his WR (the slowest WR on the team that you would think is a TE) 3 times for 15 yards.

That is the QB you are getting. Now mind you, in the USC game he was 23/36 for 318 yards, and 3 TD. And then a fumble and an INT. Both of those were deep in scoring drives. ND lost by 11, there is a 12 point swing right there.

So, good luck.

Fair enough, and thanks for your feedback. The insiders I know aren’t blown away by any means and we all realize his stats come up short bit Dilly did great work with Nix so maybe these kinds of QB’s are just better suited for football on the west coast.
We’re just excited in Tempe since the Herm crime ring hadn’t done ANY recruiting for the lady 18 months.

Pyne is a great number 2 guy. He is barely 6'0" he has an okay, not good arm. And as long as you have an amazing safety valve kind of player like a strong TE or something he will manage the game. He is not a playmaker.

Now, keep in mind he was never made to be the starter at ND and was only ever made to be a depth guy. I'm not sure why ND chose him as the depth guy other than he was very rah-rah for ND before he ever got on campus so he was an easy pickup.

I have told others I have strong feelings about both the transfer portal and the early signing period. And in Drew Pyne's scenario I can't wrong him for making the move he did when he did. But I still think he screwed his team some. Even though I am sure from his angle he feels the team screwed him.

Basically the scenario went. He was the number 2 guy. The starter got injured late in game 2 of the season, he came in and lost that game. And then reeled off a decent list of wins including Clemson, UNC, and Syracuse. But then also lost to an awful Stanford team at home and then he was the reason for the loss at USC. You can't convince me otherwise. So then the regular season ends. And then he gets told that 'Hey the injured starter should be healthy enough to start the bowl, and if he is, he is the starter again and you are the 2nd string guy'. So he felt screwed after playing all season. And didn't feel he deserved to be benched. ND said hey it isn't fair that a starter loses his spot because he was injured and there was a reason before the injury he was the starter and you weren't.

So for him he had to jump into the portal before the bowl, right away, before other, better players jump in the portal and he becomes a less shiny penny.

He is a decent 8 win guy. He is not a championship level guy.

Kirby is gonna do what Kirby does. He has shown that he is good at recruiting, but more importantly, he's good at recruiting players that fit the culture that he worked his ass off to build in Athens. He grabs some surprise flips occasionally. I won't lie, I hope him and Dell McGee flip Justice Haynes from Bama. Haynes' Dad, Verron, was the fullback for UGA that caught the infamous "Hob-nail boot" pass against Tennessee all those years ago.

That’s why I don’t follow recruitung. Just makes one stressed/angry.

Less reason to follow it now. Kids will hit the portal the following year. Just a revolving door of supporting the guys on your team to rooting against then in a conference game the next.
Signing day used to be fun. Most recruits know where they are going now. The recruits still undecided are generally negotiating or leaked. Ie: Matayo will commit to Oregon tomorrow. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him wind up in the portal and at Ohio State or another school at some point. It’s basically make sure LOI’s are signed for me now and following the portal. Really hoping SC can land Trace Ford from the portal. From what I’ve seen and heard he’s a bad man.

I do miss the old signing days that felt like Christmas morning tho.

I don't really follow it other than knowing who is expected etc. But it is something when you see a kid that has been in the class for 11 months and on the eve of signing day the head coach has to get an advanced okay for an in home visit. Pretty obvious something is up there lol

Other than that I am a ND fan. Disappointment is in my blood lol

ND should have made a hard pitch for Leary.....instead he went to Kentucky?

Liam Coen is coming back as our OC and we have a pretty dynamic receiver group.....to include TEs.
I love it for you guys and it's a good fit.....just saying ND should have targeted him and if they had.....he might have gone there. No offense, but Kentucky isn't exactly ND.

Stoops has done a really good job there though.

I just realized you were talking about QB not TE ;)

I don't think Leary was ever a front runner for Leary, from what I heard. I expect ND to announce their QB after bowl but before the national championship. But I am pretty sure they are down to just a couple of guys.

I dont know if ND had any interest or not. I cant argue with ND being a historic program with rich tradition and continued relevance today, but UK is still a great destination for a QB who wants to start and showcase their skills against SEC competition in order to get to the next level. Levis will be drafted after a mediocre year. Being coached under an NFL guy, Coen probably had a lot to do with his choice, just like Levis

He is a good kid. ND got the TE they wanted this go round, and has a full TE stable for this roster. I think there is 2 they are looking at for next year though depending on attrition after next season

And full disclosure they would have been getting in really late on him. Because a TE just announced they were transferring really recently. Which is the only reason there is an extra spot for TE right now
Talking about the QB Leary.
