Because they're desperate to not admit they've been beaten.....ie the same reason the Japanese refused to surrender until they had 2 atomic bombs dropped on them and the Soviet Union declared war on them even though their Navy, merchant marine and air force had already been wiped out. Even though they were under a tight naval blockade. Even though they could hardly get any fuel or other raw materials from the areas they still held. Even though they were on the brink of mass starvation that would have killed an estimated 4-8 million Japanese in the next six months. Even though the US alone was outproducing them by more than 10 to 1. Even though with Germany now defeated they were looking at the prospect of the US devoted the other 2/3rds of its strength that had previously been focused on defeating the Nazis entirely on them now. Even though with the Nazis now defeated, the British Empire was now free to pour all of its strength into helping defeat them (indeed the Royal Navy had started showing up in the Pacific in a major way in the last few months of the war).

There is a similar dynamic going on with Iran. Fanatics who know they will be out of power will hold on to the last minute and won't give the slightest shit what it costs their people.

By any objective measure, this has been an utter asskicking. If we sailed away today, they would be in a vastly weaker position than they were before it began. There is no way anybody objective could call it anything other than a loss for them.

No, they're trying to destroy the Trump presidency and legacy. But not get him removed. They're stalling, and dragging it out, playing him for a fool, and causing disgruntlement here. I posted a great video the other day explaining it.
