The Dolphins are a member of the Pioneer League in FCS.

In a statement, the university said it made the decision “with input from experienced, independent consultants ... after a data-driven evaluation of Division I intercollegiate athletics.”

“As a University, we are investing and innovating to match our offerings to the 21st century marketplace and to support the diverse demands and interests of our students,” said Jacksonville University President Tim Cost in a statement. “This investment profile requires careful analysis, realistic planning and – occasionally – difficult decisions to help drive us forward to excellence.”

I live near Jacksonville State University (alabama), when I first read this, I was like what ? I hate it for JU (florida),, I never like to hear of a football program being cancelled.. when they did this at UAB it brought massive negative reactions from the community.

I don't mean to be a dick, but if your program isn't making money, you're AD sucks more balls than a 40 year old porn star looking for her next heroin fix. Every college football team in Georgia makes money. At every level. Hell, colleges all over this state are starting football programs just because they see the money cow.

//They averaged 1,807 fans over six home games - the second-lowest attendance average in the league and the sixth-lowest in the FCS.\\

1,807 attendance? WTF????

//The school is offering full tuition scholarships to every football player who chooses to stay at Jacksonville University until graduation. The university also will honor the contracts of all football coaches and assist in their job searches.\\

Well, good on them for that.

Yeah Jacksonville is very expensive to go to and they did not offer scholarships anyways. They play in the FCS Pioneer Conference, which should move to D3 or NAIA. None of those teams offer scholarships and most are not any good. Awesome on JU for allowing kids to finish but last I heard 39 were in the transfer portal.

Most of those teams were in D3 until the NCAA dragged them up to I-AA in 1993 which is what led to the formation of the Pioneer League to begin with. If they could drop back down, they'd probably do so in a heartbeat. The only problem is that they're all listed as D1 overall and I don't see Davidson dropping to D3 for everything as that would include men's basketball.

St Johns is right? Or is that just their football?

I'm maybe in the minority, but I think if a college sports program isn't self financing, there is no reason to have one. College is supposed to be about higher learning and it's far too expensive as it is- no reason to be subsidizing sports.

I think the future of brick and mortar schools is very much in doubt anyway.

I've learned more from YouTube University than my own Alma Mater.
