Looking at the permanent damage to his knuckles, I'd say he done a lot of work with his hands that no one in today's world will understand or appreciate.

with a few dozen black angus,
bout 100 spanish/boer goats,
and another 50 or 60 southdown sheep,
and 6 beautiful red layin hens,
and a few dogs,
