That's too real to be funny. The hubris is unfathomable to me. My wife's family are all blue libs. They groan in misery about how bad things are and yet they are unwilling to comprehend that Biden and the left have ANYTHING to do with it. I honestly can't help but wonder if they were aware they're full of shit, parroting the MSNBC talking points, or if they've truly been so disillusioned their brain creates a coping mechanism that makes them dumb.

Linear politics will do this to you. There's no right & there's no left, that's the lie they feed us while they prop up a Top-down Hierarchy.

Cognitive dissonance is real, and it's hard for anyone to really be free from it to some extent, but that's nothing new.

I saw a post, I believe on Twitter, that seemed to describe what's going on now, and why it's much worse, and much less likely to change. There are a lot of people these days whose very public opinions or beliefs become a part of their identity. When those beliefs are challenged, or even unequivocally refuted, it feels like a personal attack to the person who has married their identity/self worth/integrity to that belief. That person is not likely to change course, and often will double down on their adherence to their belief, no matter how misguided.

After all, this person joined a tribe, pledged allegiance, and is told repeatedly that they are one of the good guys. Who wants to give all that up? Next thing you know, you're saying things like "I follow the science, and sometimes men get pregnant...", or "I've yet again tested positive for Covid 19. I'm grateful that I took the vaccine and was boosted 3 times, otherwise I'm sure I'd be feeling a lot worse...anyway, back to isolation for me".
