Was just recently in Komodo but decided to return & take my daughter, mainly because the mantas were back in full force & because the idiot governor of the region was closing Komodo National Park on Jan 1. Then decided NOT to close the park but raise the cost from around $10USD to $1000USD. Ummm, no.
Anyway, we had limited time so did a fast track, Singapore Airlines from LAX to Changi to Bali. Then on to Komodo the next day. Had a great time showing her the new Jewel building at Changi, several stories of waterfalls, stunning gardens & floral displays right in the very middle of Changi Airport. Kept her from surfing Tiffany, Armani & Rolex in the airport.
We spent 11 days at Komodo Dive Resort, me snorkeling & her diving. Our first day at Manta Point was unbelievable for me. 40, 50, 60, mantas cruising at the surface with the snorkelers while the divers fumed on the bottom. Got bumped more than a few times, camera knocked out of my hand once. These were the BIG mantas & you got out of their way. Thrill of a lifetime.
Of course, we spent a day at Komodo Island. The guide took her to a place where they ran into a LARGE dragon crashing through the brush. He plopped down right near her & she got to run her hands over his back & tail. Good thing I wasn't there, I'd been screaming, don't touch that thing, you've don't know where it's been. She was the only one to see one of the Large ones that day but did see several mediums.
Saw amazing sights, saw the biggest freaking Spinecheek anemonefish I've ever seen, almost a foot long, and TESTY. I'm putting up a number of pictures, some done by me, the better ones done by her, then try to put up some videos.
We headed back, exhausted & reversed our trip through Bali to Singapore to home. I was NOT impressed with the business class at Singapore Air even though it supposedly wins major awards every year. Of course, flying through the remnants of a typhoon that hit Japan didn't help.
An unusual find, a many spotted sweetlips juvenile

A view from our Bungalow

Pretty Up close

Black & White Manta, bit smaller

A Huge Spinecheek Anemonefish
