Makayla Craig, also known as Alec Ray Graig, is a registered sex offender who was arrested in Oregon after posing as a 15 y/o girl and attempting to register at a school.

The details of Craig’s sex abuse case are reportedly “publicly unavailable” and despite being a registered sex offender, does not appear on Oregon’s sex offender registry. The police also closed comments on their announcement.

Why is this sex offender’s identity being suppressed and covered up?

ALBANY, Ore. – Albany police are investigating after a 27-year-old registered sex offender allegedly tried to register for high school by using a fake identity.

According to the Albany Police Department, on December 13, members of the Families and Communities Together (FACT) organization contacted a school resource officer at a high school with concerns about a person who had registered to be a student at the school. FACT is a safeguard to confirm identities because a state of Oregon mandate allows homeless youth to initially register for school without verifiable identification. Police said the person appeared to be an adult, but had given a false name and date of birth that portrayed them as a 15-year-old girl when attempting to enroll in high school.

Jail records show Makayla Craig, 27, was identified as the person of interest and arrested on suspicion of computer crimes, forgery, and false swearing. Craig has since been released from jail and no charges have yet been filed. The case is still under investigation.

Court records show Craig changed her name from Alec Ray Craig in 2021 and was convicted of third-degree sexual abuse in 2023. At the time of her arrest, Craig had been on probation for that conviction for three weeks, having been barred from being present in any place minors regularly congregate. The director of the shelter where Craig lives reported seeing Craig at a park on November 18, and that probation violation was being reviewed.
