Playoff Expansion

Looks like the CFP will be expanding to 12 Link

- It will include 6 Conference Champions (highest ranked by the committee) and 5 at large bids.
- Top 4 Conference Champions will receive byes (No at large teams can receive byes, must be a conference champion)
- First round will be played on campus at the higher seed
- Quarterfinals on will be played at neutral locations

IMO no auto bids given to the conferences was a great idea. This means if there's a crazy fluke in the conference championship, we won't see a 4/5 loss team in the playoffs.

Winners:
Group of 5 (Especially the AAC) - With 6 Conference Champions getting in the playoff, it guarantees at least one G5 team will be in the CFP every year.
PAC 12 - PAC 12 has only had a participant in the CFP twice. Under this new format, it's much more likely the PAC will have a playoff participant.
Conference Championship Games - Conference Championships are now much more important because you have to win a conference in order to get a bye.

Losers:
Independents (Especially ND) - Under this system, ND will never be eligible for a bye. I think this will probably force ND to join the ACC.

Something to think about......

If you’re top 4, the good news is you get a bye. The bad news is you don’t get to host a home game (but 5-8 do) and your fans have to travel to four straight neutral sites, starting with the conference championship.

Not perfect, but better than what is in place, tough call to expand it further, too many games unless you cut back on regular season games which will not happen...

Looks like up to 6, Alabama with the bye, and whichever other SEC teams are in the top 6.

One thing I personally don’t want to happen is rematches of conference championship games, unless it’s in late brackets. Say Bama plays a team from the SEC East in the regular season and beats them, and that team wins out. They play again in the SEC Championship game. If they win, they are in. If that was Bama only loss, they would probably be in. It sets up a situation where you would have to play that team a third time. Playing the same team three times in one year hardly seems fair.
