So let's talk about the CFB committee's rankings. The Bama affect.

Now Tennessee and LSU are in the top 7 because of their wins over Bama. Both could have easily lost to Bama because of 1 play, but it is what it is.

I'm not saying Bama will lose to Ole Miss, but if they do, should the Vols and the Corndogs drop because their win is no longer as impressive as is currently credited?

Don't take it so hard, bro. If, literally, two, 50/50 plays had gone the other way, Bama would be undefeated and the undisputed #1. You are the better man.
If two plays go differently, we lose to Texas and Texas A&M. I don’t disagree with your logic in principle. Bama is not a great team though- were not for our (earned) brand, we’d be lower ranked. With reason.

I can't argue with your facts, but I will ask you to address my thread with a more in depth observation. I really think it's worth a discussion.

Fair enough. I’d say no…you don’t punish teams for their accomplishments because their metric begins to falter. Maybe Bama, unaccustomed to this situation, folds the remainder of the season— dropping Tennessee and LSU wouldn’t be fair as they beat a trying Bama. Now, obviously at seasons end all things (records, performances, etc) should be considered, but, no I don’t think you drop either simply if Bama begins to fall apart.

I’m not a fan of preseason and early rankings. Because there is no real body of work. Honestly they shouldn’t rank teams until atleast 4 weeks into the season imo.

I also think ranked wins are based on the end of the season. Not what teams were ranked when they played. That’s when you k no ow what teams are. That said if Bama drops yes that should effect Tennessee and LSU’s rankings. That eould drop their SOS.

Yeah, but teams go up and down, some get hot and some falter due to injuries. Its all about what is current at the time. I do agree that its all about timing by the middle to the end. Just not sold on taking away a ranking after some solid wins at the beginning of the season. It is what it is during any moment.

Oh I get that big injuries go both ways. One could say Bama wasn’t as big a win for Tennessee and LSU because of Young’s injury. He definitely didn’t look 100% in either game. All teams and games have variables. I can’t stand Oregon but there 1 loss was a season opener to UGA. You could also say they okay a 9 game conference schedule with 3 OOC games. Opposed to Tennessee and LSU’s 8 game conference schedule with 4 OOC games.

This is where the interpretation of rankings play a major role. You could say team A beat 4 ranked teams as opposed to team B beat 2 ranked teams. But by the end of the year Team A only played 1 team that is still ranked while team B played 5 teams that finished in the top 25.

I go by finished product and final rankings but that’s just my opinion. SOS changes a lot by the end of the season.

yes because their wins do no not seem as strong.

i agree that as rankings change, strength of schedule should change.

i do not believe subjectivity will ever be eliminated from rankings. i am not sure it should. these arguments are part of what makes college football so much fun.
