If any one is going to Sturgis, make sure your route does not take you thru a Rez. We are having severe outbreaks of the virus and all the Rez in SD have armed and manned check points to not allow any through traffic.

Couple of Bandidos got their rears handed to them by my husband and another AIM member this morning at the roadblock on 44 going into the Rez. The Rez is not playing around, so make sure to re-route if needed

It is truly sad that our government is doing very little for all of our Native American reservations. I'm glad to see that all of you are taking your protection into your own hands. I do believe @CowpokeU will agree with me on this one. Shoot first and ask questions later.

BTW, Sturgis has been on my bucket list for many years and I don't even like motorcycles.

We are in a big fight with our idiot governor Noem over sovereignty. USSC ruled in the 90s that we have exclusive sovereignty of roads on Rez boundaries and local, state and federal have no say in how we control them. Noem seems to have reading comprehension issues on this despite the state legislature including her Republican party telling her she is out of line and has no say in us blocking the traffic to non-Rez people to protect our people for this virus. Been going on quite awhile now.

One of Bandidos make the mistake of calling my husband a prairie n****r. Needless to say it did not go over well. The AIM brother with my husband yanked him off his bike and the other Bandido got pulled off his by my husband. They got sent packing with some gifted bruises. My husband is not that big at 6ft and about 190lbs, but the AIM brother would scare Bill Goldberg in his prime at UGA. The dude is around 6'5" and weighs around 280 lbs and solid muscle. Seen him drop a buffalo to ground by grabbing his horns and twisting the bull's head. Just a huge Cheyenne brother with the attitude of a pissed off buffalo bull.

I truly believe your father would agree with what I'm about to say. Bear with me.

Oun she la. Until you aren't allowed to. Then defend you and yours with your entire being. Never bow down to stupid, no matter how passive you feel you should be towards others. Fight when you should, but if you fight, fight with all of your being. As long as you are honest with yourself and our creator, you have that right.

I still hope to one day meet you in person. I am humbled each time I converse with you as I was each time I conversed with your father. Our society is divided, but we are one. I'll never forget that.

We are getting hit hard on the Rez here with tourists flooding in to go to the GSMP, Blue Ridge and Nantahalla National Forest.

It's horrible and we've lost quite a few and some of our last first language speakers because of it.

He would. I am pretty much a pacifist but will defend myself if needed and I do carry a knife for the ones that call me squaw. My husband on the other hand is not a pacifist and doesnt take anything off people like today.

Dad on the other hand was a complete pacifist, because he was Wakan (holy) and not allowed to defend himself no matter what. It was not something he talked about when I was growing up, but I saw the respect Elders gave him and the tobacco and sage they would bring to him when they visited the house, as well as hearing the talks when allowed to listen.

Sometimes it torques my jaws when I read a post and have to cool down. Want to use that kind of language, then suffer the consequences.
Tell all, esp if I have this right:

aha̱shwa hlampko
aha̱shwa aha ahni

stay strong stay vigilant

unfortunately it is very common place out here. I grew up hearing it whenever we left the Rez to go to Rapid City for anything

It would be easy for me to say that y'all just need to enforce your sovereignty rights and close the roads to non- Rez residents, but I know that all Rez's are different and y'all do need the tourist dollars in the summer for the local economy, so the circumstances are different as they are at all our Reservations. Really sad to hear that the last of the first language speakers are being lost to this horrible virus.

We have lost some Elders as well, but it has really hit the younger ones hard here a Pine Ridge and at the Rosebud. We have had several children under 15 die from it. Alot is due to the malnourishment so many of ours here suffer from daily. Makes their immune systems weaker to fighting any type of virus. It is heartbreaking for all our People.

Last week you could hear the death songs being sung from so many houses and all we can do is say the Prayers, ask Creator for His help, and do our Inipis.

@Gentle Horse, are you in S Dakota? My family used to visit Redfield every summer when I was a kid as that’s where my father is from. Drove thru Reservations en route, always was fascinated. I grew up in Montana and we competed against Lodge Grass (Crow) and Plenty Coups (Northern Cheyenne) in athletics. When I was in high school, Lodge Grass won the basketball state title 3 straight years. Damn they were good!
