I assume it's because it's mRNA. You should ask them their opinion of Covi-Vac (It's the only LAV one undergoing trials).

That's close but not quite accurate. The m(essage)RNA enters the cells and is consumed. The message instructs these cell to produce a spike protein which the body then attack and store in memory and produces antibodues for future attacks.

Now assuming the particular variant of Covid that hits you has this protein, your immune system starts the fight pre-armed. Standard prison rules at that point though, the rest will attack and attempt ri defeat the intruder and build up additional antibodies. This is presumably why it's ineffective against some variants, but highly effective against others.

It's still a vaccine in the traditional sense (that it builds up an immune response) but definitely not as effective as the traditional LAV or dead virus vaccines which allow multiple attack vectors to be developed.

On the bright side Novi-vac is in phase 1 of an LAV, which is probably more inline with what you'd consider a traditional vaccine.
