The new USFL

Not so fast, my friends. Apparently, Fox just took the USFL name without permission.....

The Real USFL LLC, a company formed to protect the trademarks of the 1980s spring football league, is seeking injunctions to stop the network from using the name USFL and any of the original league’s team names or logos.

“Fox has no claim to this legacy and no right to capitalize on the goodwill of the league,” the Real USFL said in its complaint, filed in federal court in Los Angeles. “Fox’s USFL franchise is an unabashed counterfeit.”

Larry Csonka has role in lawsuit filed trying to block FOX Sports’ launch of USFL

From what I understand all the first season's games will be played in Birmingham at the UAB stadium.

One of 'em is where they used to play the Iron Bowl, eh?
They said "Protective field" and Soldier field per website. You may need some protection at $10 per game. The pay-out is 45K per player for all 10 games. 10K for the scout team. They are also offering free tuition.

Believe Soldier Field is where they used to play the Iron Bowl??

Free tuition to where?? To most any 4-year school, that pretty much doubles that salary.....

That would be Legion Field where the Iron Bowl was played for years. It was being used for UAB games until Protective field was built. It also is used for two games the Magic City and Iron City Classic games. The SWAC will have some games there.

They did, apparently, move some of the games to Legion Field.

Birmingham sure seems to have a lot of stadiums......

Legion Field or the old gray lady was the first. It held the Iron Bowl plus several other Alabama and Auburn games. For example, TN would not travel to Auburn for games

Alabama had a lot of games there as it was easier for the press etc to get to it. With the advent of the interstate system and increase of seating in Tuscaloosa Alabama quit playing there.

UAB was using it until the rebirth and the new smaller Protective Stadium was built. Knowing Birmingham politics it was a windfall for a lot of the politicians.
