I think we all know it wasn't the couple thousand dollars that some of us got. It was the pork barrel of everything else. You cannot print billions in new money from thin air without massive amounts of inflation.

When looking at economic impacts like this, it is generally helpful to take things to the logical extreme. Let's say everyone DID get $40K (instead of most of that going to pet projects). How much would a loaf of bread cost if that would have happened?
