Because it's to the point that it's needed. UGA has had like 8 players enter the portal in the last year. Let's keep up with where they're leaving and where they end up.

Ohio State Cornerback Tyreke Johnson Enters Transfer Portal | Eleven Warriors

A five-star recruit in the class of 2018, Johnson never started a game in three seasons with the Buckeyes. Even as Ohio State's secondary struggled last season, Johnson rarely saw the field, playing just 77 snaps in six games, with 50 of those snaps coming against Rutgers. He made eight total tackles over the past two seasons.

Johnson was the #21 ranked recruit in the nation in 2018.

I certainly expect Virginia Tech to hold up their high numbers of transfers. Rats deserting Fuente's sinking ship...
 
Tyler Shough, QB (Oregon to Texas Tech): Shough's decision to leave Oregon came as a big surprise, considering he did a respectable job as the Ducks' primary QB last season. Now, instead of battling with Anthony Brown and Ty Thompson for the lion's share of 25-30 pass attempts per game, Shough should be the starter for a Texas Tech team that throws closer to 45 times per game. The Red Raiders probably aren't going to win the Big 12, but Shough may well lead the nation in passing yards if he stays healthy.
Alan Bowman, QB (Texas Tech to Michigan): A big reason Shough went to Texas Tech in mid-February was that Bowman left Lubbock in late January. When he was able to stay healthy, Bowman was a solid quarterback, throwing for more than 380 yards on six occasions. He isn't likely to start for the Wolverines, but he could be an intriguing factor/backup.

coach wells has done a decent job with the portal,
including fortifyin the o-line,
which of course was a big part of bowman's injuries -
last year, amazinly, it was the offense
which held tech back -
bein matt's third year,
it's make or break -
with cumbie comin back home to run the offense,
and tyler comin to lubbock.
i look for a return of the tech offense we're used to seein -
we lost a pretty good ball hawk in mcphearson
(drafted to philly), and a good hand in leggett,
but we added two safeties and corners,
so the defense aughta be good enuf to keep us in games -
we got tcu, k state and ok state at home -
if tech can win those,
plus at baylor, wvu and kansas, all winnable,
it would be a good season,
and matt would get a renewal -

How Alabama transfer Brandon Turnage fits on Georgia’s depth chart (msn.com)

Former Alabama football player Brandon Turnage has transferred and will join the Georgia football program after two seasons in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide. Turnage provides depth at a major position group of need at Georgia. He can play cornerback, safety or the safety/linebacker hybrid known as the STAR.
 
Texas A&M receiver Camron Buckley becomes Indiana Hoosiers' eighth incoming transfer this offseason (espn.com)

The Indiana Hoosiers announced Monday that Texas A&M wide receiver Camron Buckley is transferring into the program.

Buckley graduated from Texas A&M in December and will be eligible immediately. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Texan played in 39 games, making four starts, and caught 62 passes for 877 yards and four touchdowns during his career there. He missed all of last season with an injury.

Fortunately for Bama, last season the kicker position was the last thing to worry about. With such a prolific offense, kicking was an afterthought. This season might be a bit different. Young is obviously as talented as touted, but unproven. Sark is gone. Bama won't miss much of a beat because Saban is Saban, but the kicking game may be much more important.

I’m thinking that initially at least, you got to see more emphasis on the running game and play action passing. I actually think from all I’ve heard, that Bama’s defense is going to be hell on wheels this year. That should give the office it’s time to start gelling and for Bryce to mature some

UGA gets Clemson to start the season. Ain't no opportunity to gell when the season starts. Be ready day one or you ain't ready at all.
