Louisville football loses recruiting coordinator in middle of recruiting weekend

The Louisville football program seems to be having issues keeping people in the building. On Friday evening, the program was dealt a major blow when Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs plucked away their recruiting coordinator.

In February, David Cooper left his post as the assistant director of player personnel at the University of Florida to become the recruiting coordinator at the University of Louisville. In an off-field role, Cooper was assigned to run the recruiting operation for the Cardinal football program after Satterfield’s first three recruiting hauls finished 53, 47, 44 in average star rating among the 65 Power Five programs. After landing two commitments, a couple of transfers, and serving four months, Cooper is returning to the SEC.

However, this is just horrific timing. Popeye Williams — a four-star edge player from Indianapolis — is currently the program’s highest-ranked commitment in the 2022 class and is on campus this weekend for his official visit. Now the coaching staff must explain while the man running their recruiting operation is dipping out in the middle of an important weekend.

That might not be the only reason they lose out on Williams. Apparently spelling isn't a strong skill at Louisville.

Former Nebraska QB Luke McCaffrey ends up at Rice after re-entering the portal following a brief stint at Louisville.
The move isn’t entirely out of left field when you look at the Rice coaching staff. Rice’s head coach is Mike Bloomgren, who served as Stanford’s offensive coordinator before taking the Owls job in 2018.

Bloomgren’s star pupil with the Cardinals? None other than Christian McCaffrey, Luke McCaffrey’s older brother-turned-Heisman finalist.
 
Tennessee WR Malachi Wideman enters NCAA transfer portal (247sports.com)

Tennessee freshman wide receiver Malachi Wideman officially entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday, sources told 247Sports. Wideman spent just one season with the Volunteers before departing the program.

A four-star recruiting prospect coming out of Venice, Florida, in the 2020 recruiting class, Wideman picked to play for Tennessee over the likes of Florida State — a school that he had previously been committed to before he backed off of that pledge — Ole Miss, Oregon and others. In his one year with the team, Wideman played in six games and caught a mere one pass for 24 yards. That was the only statistic he recorded.

Texas wide receiver Jake Smith has entered the NCAA's transfer portal, according to multiple reports, and later confirmed on Tuesday evening. Smith, a shifty slot receiver, missed all of spring football with a broken foot.

The 2018 National Gatorade Player of the Year at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. was expected to have a pivotal role in 2021 for Texas with Sarkisian's success at wideouts during his time at Alabama.
 
LSU starting left tackle, senior, Dare Rosenthal has entered the portal. Rosenthal will no longer be on LSU’s roster due to a violation of school policies. This wasn’t the first time he faced disciplinary measures from the team.

Hope he can put the past behind him if he transfers to UK.

All has been relatively quiet from Dare Rosenthal’s camp over the last 24 hours. No news is sometimes good news and that may be the case for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Monday evening LSU’s starting left tackle in 2020 entered the transfer portal. Kentucky was considered the top option by some shortly after the news broke. Tuesday afternoon there were whispers around LSU that the former four-star recruit may actually end up at Baylor or Miami. Mike Farrell, the self-proclaimed “Godfather” of recruiting for Rivals, isn’t buying it. Farrell believes Rosenthal will in fact be a Kentucky Wildcat.

Baylor is involved here, and I have heard Miami likes him as well, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up at Kentucky and perhaps push the Wildcats to the top of the nation’s offensive line rankings.
With Darian Kinnard back as a first-team All-American, putting Rosenthal at the other tackle position or at guard would strengthen a terrific group that should open major holes in the SEC this coming season.

We do not have a ton of high profile transfer portal cases to point to as precedent, however, this appears to be not so different than Wan’Dale Robinson. Granted, there was a much stronger previous connection, but Wan’Dale took about a week to publicly commit to UK after announcing his departure from Nebraska. During that time some people worried that he may end up at Purdue.

Like Robinson, some Worrying Willys will believe that Rosenthal is not destined to make the move to Lexington. It may take longer than most would like, but the talented offensive tackle will most likely suit up for the Wildcats next fall, further strengthening what Cole Cubelic already believes is the best offensive line in the SEC.
 
Alabama junior linebacker King Mwikuta has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

He was a unanimous four-star selection by the major recruiting services … listed as the No. 8 weakside defensive end by 247Sports and the No. 9 prospect at his position on the 247Composite in the 2018 class.
