He is undoubtedly football smart. Nor kidding. He is Rainman kind of smart. But last couple of years that would almost get in the way. Far too many reads and shifts at the line.

Last year there was a hash tag 'ban the scan'. Because ND lost their starting QB really early in the season and the backup was not starting quality (which that recruitment was his fault) and he would constantly call audibles and shifts at the line once he saw the defense line up for the play. It ate an insane amount of clock time. And basically took all the wind out of the sails of the QB.

But the play calling itself was pretty legit. I have to admit is pretty torn when he left. As I thought the offense on the roster this year that he worked to build was finally exactly what he was looking for.

So it really surprised me he would leave to go somewhere with so much stress and expectation to succeed on day 1. I mean if you look at the offensive roster ND has this year. I mean it is pretty stacked. And the only outright wart is experience at the WR position.
