I'm still stuck on Peru. It's a place with the tallest mountains and the most diverse landscapes and the most gentle people. I'm still struggling to make sense of it all. I fear, I never will
How does the hardest conditions shape the kindest of people?
I'm not sure.
My reflection is how does a America with the easiest conditions shape the most mal-discontents? It's not just my friends, my family and my enemies. It's me too.
Americans are strangely so discontent that we are malcontent - so dissatisfied that we blame others- partially the innocent Starbucks' cashier, that they are the root of our problems.
A $5 coffee.
That is the arrogance of many Americans.
How can we change that?
#1 empathy.
Don't worry about next steps. I'm still working one #1. Empathy. Really listening is part of empathy.
Pro tip. Instead of asking, "why don't you people do _____or that"
Try
"Can you tell me about ___this or that?"
Show interest. Show caring. And I think, we get better at empathy.
I am Not sure. So please let me know if empathy is important or over emphasized?

Could write a book about this.

Grew up poor but not in poverty. I wake up grateful for everything that I have been given and earned. Work hard every day.

I look at my mom's parents that survived WW2 and the Nazi's. They left Europe with nothing but clothes to start a new life. For them, just waking up and being alive was the greatest thing. I have never had such a life were someone had a gun to my head and you did not know if you make it to end of the day. The horrors of WW2 was not something they liked to share.

//America with the easiest conditions shape the most mal-discontents\\
Actually raccoon boy posted something like this a while back on THAT OTHER BOARD. And in response to my c&p from the post, I heard somebody talking about the people that couldn't stand it/make it here. And he said where you gonna go? If you can't make it here you have to be an absolute loser.
