I left Hawaii and headed to Mogadishu, Somalia in January of '93. After I got to Somalia, I got a letter from my buddy back in Hawaii.
Here's the story....
Back in the day there was 1 country bar on Oahu. My buddies and I were regulars there during the week. On the weekend, we were regulars at the Barber's Point E-club. (

Anyway, the week I left for Somalia, My buddies were at the bar and one of them saw someone sitting at the bar and told the other one, "Dude, THAT'S Tracy Lawrence". They talked back and forth then my buddy went over and introduced himself. It was indeed, Tracy Lawrence. They invited him to be their guest at Barber's Point for the weekend. He accepted. He spent Friday and Saturday night at the on base E-club with my friends. He hung out, drank, danced with the military ladies, (just doing the same thing we always did). They said nobody bothered him, just treated him like one of the guys. When he released his 2nd album later that year, he dedicated it to "All my Marine friends in Hawaii, thanks for a vacation of a lifetime". I missed hanging out with him by one fucking week.
