Riley to SCum not LSU

I am hoping true but in the past 48 hours I have read that it is Campbell, not Campbell and a few other well named coaches. Just waiting for official press release.

I have heard that Campbell was going to LSU. Hadn't really heard of him being serious candidate for USC.

I mean when it comes to USC, I can't remember the last time they actually got the first guy that they went after. The whole reason you guys still had Helton at beginning of this year, is that when they wanted to can him last year they couldn't get a replacement for him.

Oklahoma Sooners coach Lincoln Riley is leaving Norman for the head-coaching vacancy with USC, sources tell The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.

Riley, 38, is 55-10 in his fifth season in Norman. The Sooners have ranked in the top 10 in each of his years and have made the College Football Playoff four times since he joined the program in 2015, though Oklahoma is 0-4 in its appearances. Riley is known for his offensive mind and work with quarterbacks including Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

The Sooners just wrapped up their 2021 regular season with a loss to in-state rival Oklahoma State on Saturday to finish 10-2. After the loss, Riley shot down speculation that he would be the next head coach at LSU.

This will be Oklahoma's first real coaching search since Bob Stoops was hired in 1999, as Stoops hired Riley as his offensive coordinator in 2015 and then helped choose him as his successor in 2017.

Well if message board rumors are true, back in 2019 after losing to you guys it took Bohn two weeks to come out and say Helton was sticking around. Talk was during that two week period Bob Stoops was set to be hired but wanted total control and the bot wouldn’t agree to it.

As for Riley his name didn’t come up until this morning. Once again, rumor was 3 current college coaches and 1 NFL coordinator (Quinn/Dallas) had been vetted.

His name had been mentioned a few times. I but most figured it was too lateral of a move. I never thought it was. Because and I don't say this as an asshole. The PAC is down right now. If you are Riley, and your ultimate goal is the league and not college. Would you rather go to the SEC and have to fight to turn the roster over from a B12 to a SEC roster getting beat on the whole time you are doing it, and hurting your personal brand. Or would you prefer to go to the PAC where any given year there are 2 or 3 good but maybe not great teams to compete against? No brainer to me.

I don't think USC will ever be Pete Carrol 03-05 successful again, especially when you have coaches like Chip Kelly in state. But seriously there is no reason for them not to be a 9 or 10 win team every year. And then reach for better.
