Been there! Had the same issue and ended up running a whole new condensate drain line and replacing the float switch in the condensate catch pan. Pain in the ass, but worth it. Good luck!Dammitt, my upstairs inside unit has water everywhere so I had to kill it. Damned thing wasn't frozen, the drain Going to be installing window units and pulling carpet up today to access damage. The drain piping is a FUBAR design and is not even handling normal condensate. Eventually I am going to have to start taking out walls and replumb the drain ... unless I decide to relocate and replace the unit and ductwork. I may just use the window units in summer and use the HVAC for heat in the winter. Before I make a long term decision, I shall smoke a few bowls.
The house is 100+ years old and they shoehorned the inside unit into a place that should have never been considered. I can count 5 ells in a run of about 4 feet, and that's being generous with allowing 4 feet. I know there are at least two more ells in line at a minimum. I can see the installer telling the previous owner, "I can put it there if you want it there that badly, but it will give you problems". I've told my bosses that very same thing. Apparently, the owner wanted it badly.Been there! Had the same issue and ended up running a whole new condensate drain line and replacing the float switch in the condensate catch pan. Have you tried duct taping a shop vac to the end of the drain pipe. Someti.es they get clogged. Good luck dudeDammitt, my upstairs inside unit has water everywhere so I had to kill it. Dammit man, not before I've had my coffee!. I have sat here and postponed getting said coffee for almost 15 minutes. I am going to be grumpy all morning. Now, in another five minutes I am going to stop staring and retrieve the one thing that gets me through the day consistently.
Lucky you. I'm using voice commands on my phone because I went blind.
Gooooooood morning wood folks.
Edit: Happy time pushed my post past noon.
Didn't yer mom tell you to stop doing that or you'll go blind?!
Not a masterB story, but mom and step dad came home early after buying horses in Lousiana for almost a week. I was banging my girlfriend. Mom went to open the door and I jumped up and shut it. They called the girls parents and told them we were "probably" having sex and all my mother said is she saw was I was "ready" referring to my junk. Hell, I think my junk was holding up the towel. Id been not going to school, drinking whisky and screwing the whole time. I guess their expectations were too high for a crazy ass 17 year old.My mom caught me once and I got the mom version of a dad saying I'm not mad, just disappointed, she just said you shouldn't do that. I told her she should knock before she barges through the door of her teenage son when his girlfriend has been out of town for a week.
Thank gog I had a tall backed chair. I could have got political and deflected, after all, I did borrow the DVD from my dad, but I'm a good son.....with leverage.![]()
Done that twice already this year and the last time I followed it up with a 15PSI blow out. I have been pouring 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drains once a month. The problem is just getting worse in spite of that. I am starting to think that a section of pipe/ells is effectively a trap that is allowing bacteria/slime to plug it up.Have you tried duct taping a shop vac to the end of the drain pipe. Ugh. Is there a ton of rust in the pipe or evaporator coil pan?Done that twice already this year and the last time I followed it up with a 15PSI blow out. Not much rust, from what I can see ... which isn't much. I am convinced that the person that designed/installed it used to make submarines. There is a great spot for an inside unit where the drain can easily be stubbed through a soffit within 6 feet, but I guess the previous owner decided that closet space was more at a premium. They put it in a small void near the center of the upstairs and routed the drain around a chimney to tie into the bathroom drainpipe at the corner of the house. IMHO the lesson here is to not buy old houses unless you are the one doing the remodeling.Ugh. Is there a ton of rust in the pipe or evaporator coil pan?
Nevermind, it sounds like a maintenance nightmare, and sounds like youre pretty familiar with it.
I might stub a drain out from a gable, or soffit, vent, and run it down the most inconspicuous side of the home.
