Question... Do you think that a person currently holding office should be able to run for president (or even a higher office)?

Here's a few of my thoughts: Since Rep and Senate jobs are currently approached by holders of those offices as full time jobs (they weren't intended to be originally), how can they justify all the time on the campaign trail while holding a full time job? Maybe give them a point in time to declare, test the waters and then decide if they want to commit to either campaign or continue their commit to their constituents? Just a thought I had.... We need more traction in here....

I have mixed emotions about it, because, the more they are away from their "job" the less they can actually jack shit up..... but then again, they get paid an awful lot to do absolutely nothing and it's paid for by the population, not just in dollars..... I really wish we (the royal we) could fire them, rather than just wait for them to be voted out, especially since the majority of them is for all of us out of our voting areas..... maybe an escrow payment system should be setup, so that if the public doesn't approve of them in totality, none of them get paid or receive benefits.... we're screwed if they do and screwed if they don't....

I kind of wonder if we should only elect a president from the private sector. If you have been an elected official on the national level, i.e. in the U.S. House or Senate you automatically are disqualified from being president. It could potentially allow a chance for an independent to be elected, and to get away from so much of the 2 party system absolute control we have. Now I also realize that the 2 major political parties will fight like hell to get their own billionaire donors elected and it would probably be quite a while before we saw any real change, but it is an intriguing thing to me. Just look at how much Trump has stirred up a Hornets nest with some on both sides of the aisle at times. @Nod4Eight

I like this idea. I would add that they should have a minimum of 4 years in public service, be it in the armed forces, police, fire, peace corps, job corps etc. Gives you a unique perspective vs those who have not...

I wish we would restrict campaigning to a 2 month period prior to the primaries, and then through the general. President Trump will likely attend about 80 rallies over the next year.
