permanently.... so, we should probably call him anyway. Like to see how the old chap is doin'.

He was annoying as hell, but I never thought he did anything remotely ban worthy. I just put him on ignore.
 
I dont think it was the people that ruined Rivals. It was the rules.

And for those that had to moderate, spent more time trying to moderate between to sides than they did being able to actually just deal with the board.

I wouldn't care who comes here (I dont have to herd cats anymore) but the freedom we have here to shut down bullshit is so much better here than there.

The only major backfire I can see is multiple handles just like we had at rivals when we did ban someone.

In the old days we would just ban an IP. But now fake IP is too easy to get it becomes almost impossible to do so

So far, I've only had to take one mod action. The group we have currently is a different breed from the troublemakers we had on SO who just love to stir crap up. I know it's not foolproof, but everytime I see a new member, I do an IP check to see if it's a double / alt. Haven't seen one so far.
As far as the freedom we have to shut down bullshit, we have the full backing of the board admin / owner. That in and of itself is awesome!

Technology has just outpaced it over all. Modulating your IP or disguising it is common now. Where 5 or even 3 years ago it is much more uncommon.

The funny ones I remember I once we banned an IP for some troll only to find out one of the common "good" posters used the same IP because they were in the same college dorm or something like that. Was hilarious.

But I would say the number of IP checks we sent in the last year went up because more people were finding more ways around it.

Even those of us that are IP banned now could easily go post on SO again if we chose. I have an old alt there from when the board changed to the new platform, that I have never posted with because I was trying to see how the system worked for non shielded names. I just never got that name whitelisted.

But as far as the people themselves. You need a little bit of all personalities to have a good board.

There’s a huge difference between those who are bitter and hateful eg (mesecond, NotSteveNotNow, Armadillo) those who are just mentally “off” (nolepenn, collegefootballfan2017), those who bring nothing to the table but the same old crap over and over again (mono, Texas longhorns fight, SAD) and those who are clearly just having fun and not taking themselves seriously (AG, Tigity, hell - even Osceola).
