THERE IS HIGHSCHOOL FOOTBALL TONIGHT

I can't get excited. Should still be decent, but after going to state 3 straight years & coming up empty there will be a drop off. It's definitely a me problem as I can't get excited for the youth tackle team I'm coaching or the flag league I'm running. Same with college & NFL. I've not really watched any CFL or arena/indoor this summer. Definitely out of character for me. Normally I'm looking to do HS pick'em for Indiana & Ohio, but no interest. Same with college & NFL pick'em and dropped out of fantasy too. What is wrong with me & how do I fix it?

Mishawaka plays their cross town catholic rival tonight to open the season and keep the Princess City trophy when they win.

And then next week they have their home opener on their brand new turf field and host Penn in the backyard brawl.

Mishawaka looking to get all their local rivalry wins early this year ;)

Definitely. The alma mater lost 20-7 and looked awful to put it nicely. Worst part is it appears kids didn't come our for the team that could have been big contributors. Seems like some coaches are why. 1 was a coach I butted heads with as a player & another I played with. Pisses me off bc I helped develop those kids into good ball players for them. Same way I developed those kids on the 3 straight runner up teams. I still believe if any of my influence on offense & some defense could have been used, they win 1 of those 3. The other schools on the Indiana side in our new youth league lost badly except for 1 that played a newer program. The Ohio schools were mixed as 2 of the 4 played each other & do not look promising. Another looks awful and the last won but played a terrible program. The winning teams looked bad in scrimmages against good teams the 2 weeks prior. I'm sure Michigan & the 49ers will be down too.
 
Well I'm fairly certain a good portion of our high school staff doesn't like me. I have been critical of a few since 2015 to today. Guessing 2 coaches that retired that I did support might have put those I didn't in their place. I'm starting to think that when they asked me in 2017 to take over the youth program, they fully hoped I would fail & roast me. Instead I went undefeated the first year & 2nd year only lost to our older team with players that weren't as talented. 3rd year we lost a couple games with an average team but when tournament time came we whooped our opponents. The first group graduated this past June & took our program to 3 straight state finals. Now they're getting to the tail end of the kids I had. They really didn't pay attention to how I quickly changed our plays & formations to meet their skill set. So they are trying to use the same old crap that every opponent knows & doesn't use our kids' strengths. The HS staff is scratching their heads to what happened & why didn't it work. I just keep my mouth shut & get the glares leaving our practice as they begin theirs.

If you enjoy it, keep doing what you're doing, to hell with the coaches that are to dumb to realize the value.

Making me start to not enjoy it. I have one high school coach that is helping coach with us bc his youngest boy is playing. I like this coach as I played with him. However his mentor on the high school staff is the biggest one I dislike. He (mentor) now has his 2 older boys on the staff too. The mentor & I didn't get along when I played for him either. So I'm watching what I say & do. No longer have the flexibility to change away from some plays & formations. Have to laugh as the mentors 2 boys have 0 coaching experience & it showed Friday night.
 
Looking like weather for the Mishawaka / Penn game. Which is called the backyard brawl here locally.

Or the city kids vs the farmers.

Penn comes in heavily favored with a pretty awesome QB that rolled last week. However the weather might play as an extra linemen for Mishawaka to help keep the game more even.

That said. Unfortunately I think Penn gets the win and my Mishawaka team truly is in rebuilding mode

What has happened to Jimtown? They used to win it all frequently and haven't heard much from them lately up your way.

Don't quote me. But I believe up until a few years ago they were 2a and upped to 3a. But I could be wrong. But yeah here about 5 or 10 years ago they were going down state every year.

Meanwhile. I'm not sure what happened.

But this Cavemen won by 20 tonight! I can't believe how bad and unprepared Penn looked. They had better athletes at almost every position and their play calling was so insanely basic.

There was a couple jr high kids in the stands in front of me that were reading the play calls presnap. It was bad.

And I mean. It is Mishawaka. They are going to run the option. And they are doing it with a 5'10" sophomore under center. And their entire line averages 210 - 220. This isn't your traditional corn fed linemen.

So hyped. After watching Mishawaka last week and the Penn highlights. I thought it would be Penn by 3+ TD.

The trend last night down here was 1-1. A few 2-0 teams & most of those were expected and same for 0-2. The rest, it's a toss up of which team shows up. We're 1-1 but our opponent wasn't as good as everyone thought. Our problem is going to be depth, especially on defense. What happens when the coaching staff pissed off would be starters that are Juniors & Sophomores and they become 1 sport athletes now.
