Going to Jordan and Syria

With the tragic events that have unfolded in northern Syria, after prayers, Sweats and talking with my husband and daughter, I will be following in Dad's footsteps and working with Amnesty International in refugee camps in northern Jordan and then going into Syria to work in the refugee camps being set up south of the fighting. By all reports coming in, despite the so called ceasefire, evidence is mounting of the beginning of Genocide against the Kurdish people.

I cannot honor Dad, Mom and Amira by remaining silent and doing nothing. I will be leaving mid week next week and will be gone for 12-18 months or more if needed. Peace be with everyone here and I implore people to not remain silent, to not remain on the sidelines as this and other atrocities occur.

Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ - We are all related. We each have a responsibility to each other which is does not end at borders, nationality, religion, color of our skin or any other mental barrier we chose to put up to rationalize why we remain silent.

That is amazing @Gentle Horse . Sorry I haven't caught up with you in a while. Were you guys ever able to figure out that situation we worked on last year?

I have struggled all day trying to come up with the correct words to wish you safety and express support. Please let me say that you and those like you truly make the world a better place. Your selflessness is heroic. Please come back safely and teach us how to do the same.

Great words,, if I can piggy back on this, I'd like to just say "ditto"..

Gentle Horse, you are truly inspirational. What you are doing will honor the legacy of kindness and justice that your parents worked so hard for. Please be safe and know that your actions have challenged me to find ways to give back to others less fortunate than me.

Philamayaye for the kind words and prayers. There is nothing special about me. I just remember what Dad taught me and one of his sayings - we dont have to be extraordinary, just giving. It is within all of us to give of ourselves for others, and as Dad and Mom always told me, to walk Creator's path, we must first walk it in unconditional love.
Dad's other saying that always sticks with me is that we are all made in Creator's image and to hate another person is to hate Creator.

I will keep not only everyone's words in my heart, but the friendships as well, while in the refugee camps and will do my best to make Dad and Mom and Amira and my family proud.

As I have so much left to take care of and not much time before flying out Wednesday morning, this likely will be my last post until I return in a year or so. I will think of everyone and say a prayer for everyone here in the morning when I do my Sweat to prepare myself spirituality for this journey.

Take care of yourselves, your loved ones and help someone in need. No act of love and kindness is too small to make a difference in someone's life.

ps - for Irishblooded. Nothing else came out of the investigation other than the phone was bought in Oklahoma and an Alabama area code and number programmed into it. No one has been apprehended.

Ps - For Old Devil Dawg - a favor to ask. If you and your wife could do the feeding giveaway at Thanksgiving like y'all did last year once again this year to honor Dad and Mom.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear you guys never found the person. And again apologize for not being in a position to help more. Believe me I did everything I could from behind the scenes to help. Enrolled other mods to look and a couple of posters that I knew I could trust.

I hope nothing but happiness and safety for you. And look forward to hearing when you are back and the stories you have from it

Be safe Gentle Horse, not too worried about Jordan, but hope you are not too deep into Syria. Both Syria and Turkey have used chemical weapons on the Kurds. Hope you have protection from this, especially for your lungs. Blistering agents were just used in this recent incursion, apparently by Turkey, per reports. Be preparded.

We get latest updates from all the agencies involved. Right now they are telling us we will be just south of the active fighting but close enough to offer immediate assistance to the survivors of this onslaught and will be equipped with chemical gear and chemical agents alert boxes provided by an agency that is monitoring the chemical weapons usage and reporting it to the U.N..
Thank you for the concern and it does scare the he'll out of me. I just have to have faith in Creator.

I have worked with chemical weapons for 20 years, it's nasty stuff.
